World Tour 2009 - Days 13 and 14

Dec 10, 2009 07:53

Well, I've been remiss to do my daily logs. But, I'm sitting at the airport in Shanghai, and I have quite a while before my flight takes off... so I'll try to get at least days 13 and 14 recapped.

Highlights from Day 13:
  • Tianjin... a city that exists purely because the Chinese government said "make it so". Why? Well, purely for importing and exporting and industry.
  • This day turned out to be the worst of the trip. It was snowing, raining, and really freaking smoggy. It wouldn't have been so bad, but the tour around the area was a, for lack of a better phrase, pure clusterfuck. They had everyone walking around in the snow and rain looking for a bus. It might have gotten better, but unfortunately, it didn't. The tour of the industrial park was lame. We were late because of the traffic, and the bus driver might have been the worst in the world. The bus might have made it out of that day with one gear left.
  • We went to Air Bus. This could have been more interesting than it was, but it wasn't.
  • After being out in the rain and cold all day, we headed back to Beijing only to spend more time in freezing temperatures. Suddenly, many, many more of our group was sick.
Best Moment of Day 13: The bullet train from Beijing to Tianjin.

Highlights from Day 14:

  • Time to fly to Shanghai.
  • They served an actual meal for a two hour flight. The food on the plane made me nauseaous, and therefore, I did not eat it. The pineapple juice was good.
  • I was not prepared for the modern beauty of Shanghai. The buildings and architecture are amazing!!! The highway we were on was crazy high above the ground, and when I looked up there was more above me.
  • 25 million people in a city that is slightly larger in size than New York. It's crazy modern, and very foreigner (westerner) friendly.
  • We went to the hotel, and then wandered over to find a shop to do our laundry.
Best part of Day 14: Arriving in Shanghai.
