(no subject)

I'm trying to think about what goals I want to implement in the upcoming school year. One of them involves being on facebook less often for shorter periods of time! One of them might also involve taking care of myself, physically, emotionally, what have you. Intellectually I think I'm fine; I read articles online, I read books (rarely)...if I'm curious about a subject or have a question I research it. And then there's always grad school to fulfill any other intellectual longing.

The homily today centered around the idea that we're all deaf b/c we're so busy working: deaf to our needs, deaf to others' needs, and deaf to God. Father Chris made a suggestion, that I'm not sure I agree with, to parents with more than one job: quit one job and just do without. "Don't deprive your children of being deprived." He made the point that we have that 2nd job to pay for things that split us up as a family. That we pay for our kids to go off and do things separately. "they need to be involved in everything..." who says?

Well, nobody says, but I still think it's better for them. Yes, families need to do things together, but especially teenagers need to have different things outside of their families to help them find their niches. Sports, music, chess, karate, whatever. Somewhere where they can have fun, succeed, and make friends. If they have to try everything to find out where they belong, then so be it.

Anyway, maybe my goals might be to be more deaf to other people, and less deaf to myself and God.
