I went to this crappy little mall near my house a few days ago, and there was this nifty little used book sale going on. Bookworm that I am, I stopped and noticed they had a huge pile of Sweet Valley High books... I used to read those books when I was younger, and I was surprised to see them, so I stopped to see what else they had.
There were a lot of older books, it was awesome. But the thing that made me feel quite happy was the fact that they had a stack of those really old Nancy Drew mysteries there. A long time ago, I had this plan to collect all the old Nancy Drew books, which I soon forgot about, because they're actually kind of hard to find, and buying them new is awful because they're pretty expensive. I've already read most of them years ago, and I do have a couple already, but this guy had a stack of them, all used, and they were really, really cheap. So I ran to the bank machine to check my balance and then decided to get them.
I couldn't believe how cheap they were. One of them, "The Clue of the Tapping Heels", is actually an original edition, printed in 1939! Which is pretty cool!
So now that the weather is getting cold (and my life in the basement getting even colder because the doodes upstairs haven't turned on the furnace), I have been quite enjoying reading these books. They're very old, and some of the dialogue and premise and stuff is pretty cheesy, but it's all good. Currently I am wrapping up "The Clue in the Diary"... ahhhh, a perplexing mystery it is, but I have a feeling that good ol' Nancy Drew will get to the bottom of it. No one will care about this, but one of the books, "The Whispering Statue", was one I read in Grade 6, and I remember it was pretty cool. I am very much a sort of person who likes to find things I liked when I was young and re-experience them... so I'm pretty excited about re-reading that one. :D :D :D
