So much has happened over the past two weeks I'm not exactly sure where to begin. I suppose the event that brings me a great of relief is that my summer job is OVER. It was by far one of the most disheartening and difficult experiences I've ever had to deal with as a teacher. Granted, I know I made a difference for a few of the kids I worked with. Many of the students went from "Need Improvement" on their standardized testing to "Proficient at the end of the program. However, that summer program overall was an absolute mess. While the demographic I was working with made it difficult, the lack of support from the administration didn't help much. The program could have been slightly better if the administration had their act together but of course they didn't. I'm just SO GLAD that's over.
I had new teacher orientation yesterday and today. While a lot of information was thrown at me, I feel a little more confident about what I'm doing. However, I have A LOT of work I need to do before school starts. I'm going up tomorrow and Thursday to get things set up a little bit. I'm nervous considering I'm a new teacher. However, I feel like I'm going to have a lot of support from the administration and my fellow teachers. There are a few areas I'm unsure about but overall I'm feeling a little bit more knowledgeable about the expectations from my program.
I'm tired. I suppose I'll update later.
