This past week has been extremely busy and extremely long. My April vacation is the week of the 20th and typically the two weeks prior DRAG by. Furthermore, I've noticed that the work is really piling up for work and classes since the end of the year is essentially right around the corner. However, I've overall been really productive.
Just a quick review of the past few days...
Thursday: Once a month for work, the students come in at 9:30 while the staff receives specific training from 8:00-9:30. While I don't always like the content of these training sessions, I do like the idea of getting a little extra sleep. The training sessions also help the day go by faster, so I can't exactly complain.
I stayed at work late and helped a student. Afterwards, I headed up to school but arrived slightly early. Nick happened to be on campus so we met up briefly. It was nice seeing him. Around 4:00, I headed to the computer lab to meet up with my partner for a project that were working on. I typically have class on Thursdays from 4:00-6:30 but my professor is in Washington DC. It was a perfect day to get this project over with. Surprisingly, we were very productive and the project looks amazing.
My partner and I managed to finish up the project by 5:30 and I arrived at home around 6:00. I made a quick dinner, took a shower and then drove over to Nick's apartment. We hung out until about 10:30. After such a long day, I completely passed out.
Friday: Yet another day of work dragging by. At least it's nice to know that the weekend begins in a series of hours.
I was reminded of why I am pursuing a career in special education. I've been working 1:1 with a student who has some serious learning disabilities. He genuinely tries so hard but his learning disabilities really impact his progress. We've been working 1:1 specifically on his Spanish which is very difficult for him. He took a Spanish exam over the past two days and received a 90%! I've never seen the kid so happy before. It's nice to know that I played a role in his success, even if it was rather small. It's nice to know that my work is really making a difference! Sometimes it's frustrating working with students who have disabilities. However, it's moments like what happened today which make me realize this is absolutely the right field for me.
After work, I took a nap for a little bit. I'm never per se PHYSICALLY tired from work; I'm mentally tired. The nap was exactly what I needed!
I had been in touch with a friend of mine, Jordana recently. We used to be close but unfortunately life gets in the way. She and her boyfriend have moved around quite a bit and we lost touch. Luckily, we got back in contact and we arranged to go to dinner this evening. We out out for Indian food and martinis afterwards. She and her boyfriend are by far two of the nicest and most entertaining people ever. We talked about everything under the sun from politics to college to funny youtube videos. I'm thrilled that they are in the area for the time being and I sincerely hope to see them on a more frequent basis.
Today: it's almost 2am so I haven't exactly accomplished much yet. However, it appears that today is going to be an uneventful day. I'm going to my hometown to pick up some things from my mom's house. In addition, I'm helping my aunt with a paper. She just went back to school and she doesn't exactly care for her writing class. Besides that, it looks like I'll be doing laundry and cleaning. Not exactly the most interesting activities ever but still very necessary.
That's all folks.
