This is how you stimulate the economy?

On CNN.com, there is an article detailing a number of provisions within the Senate's economic stimulus bill that the GOP says are "wasteful."

While I do not agree with every point, there are a number of provisions that do cause me to raise an eyebrow. It almost seems that the democrat-controlled government is using the "stimulus bill" to justify wild spending for a number of projects that have been on the back burner for the last eight years.

Granted, I feel less aligned with the Republican point of view than I was a few years ago, but I can't help but say that I find many of these provisions to be dishonest use of the stimulus bill. As I understand it, the bill will attempt to help bolster the economy and set it on the "right track." Whether or not the bill will achieve this is debatable, and whether or not the currently direction of the American economy is effective at all are both different discussions.

Ultimately, I feel as if the new party in power is already flying the flag colors of politics. It seems as if the suggested purpose of the bill is being used to conceal a laundry list of democratic spending. It might otherwise take months are years to pass similar legislation, fraught with difficult battles through the governmental branches composed of parties with a balance of power.

The entire thing looks like the new party is "making a break for it," and having a shot at a dream come true. Granted, the republicans had much of the same for the past few years. I don't believe the cleche phrase, "and look where that got us" accurately conveys my thoughts on the dichotomy, but I will say that I was not happy with where my country was after the republican party "left office." After reading about the bill, I don't feel exceptionally hopeful for the new government, either.
