Why does life get so busy?

I can't believe how many prompts I'm falling behind on...... It's all cos work keeps cutting LiveJournal access :(

anyway - here now, so let's see if I can catch up a little. I have offerings for two today: Ticket and Leaving.

Title: Should I Stay Or Should I Go Now (with deference to The Clash)
Author: Shrimpmeister
Word Count: 147
Prompt: Ticket
Rating / Warnings: PG. No language or adult themes
Summary / Authors notes: What should he do?

John stared down at the ticket in his hand. Oklahoma City. One way.

His father had handed it to him last night, along with the letter. His uncle had a job for him if he wanted. It would give him a chance to start over, where nobody looked on John Bender with 20/20 hindsight. No more the Criminal.

If he went though, would it be giving up? He thought of Brian, of Andy, of Claire and Allison. In his shoes, would they see this as an escape route, or as sneaking out the back door? Would his father respect his going more than if he stayed and fought for his future here? Would his mother accept his motives, whatever he did?

Sometimes your life is changed by a single step.  John never understood that until now.

From the distance came the strengthening siren of the approaching train….

Title: There She Goes (with credit to The La's)
Author: Shrimpmeister
Word Count: 150
Prompt: Leaving
Rating / Warnings: PG. No language or explicit situations, but a hint at forbidden romance.
Summary / Authors notes: Speak up or stay quiet?

“When did you decide to go?”

“Few days ago. Wanted to see if anything happened to change my mind, but it’s all the same.”

Allison looked up from her coffee. She’d known Claire was unhappy, but not this much.

“John not said anything?”

“Nothing. But he doesn’t know….”

Allison lapsed into silence. Inside, her emotions threatened to eat her up. Despite wanting to look good for Andy, it was Claire who had reached out to her, helped her lose her old basketcase persona. Faced with the reality of separation, she was forced to admit that what she thought was friendship was so much more.

Could she tell her? Would it make Claire stay, or scare her off?

If she did nothing, Claire would go anyway…..

“Claire….”

“Yeah?”

“Before you make your mind up, there’s something I have to say…”

Alison reached across the table, and touched the other girl’s hand…..
