ENJOY!!
It had been quite a shock for the entire faculty. Mr Spending, the resident math professor, had passed away from a sudden heart attack. Rodney McKay, the music teacher, had been deeply affected. Mr Spending was only five years older than Rodney, and to die so suddenly! Well, frankly, it scared the shit out of him.
The news of Spending’s death had been announced that morning in the staff room. Silence had swept over every member of staff. A replacement had already been arranged; a Mr. John Sheppard would be starting today and the staff was told to make him feel welcome. Rodney doubted that the atmosphere would be positive today.
Apparently, John Sheppard was a young man who had previously been working at a local school--that was until he quit. The principal didn’t explain why, and no one questioned it, they were all still so glum from the shock.
The bell rang, signalling the beginning of another day. Rodney, however, had a free period first session, so he remained seated while the teachers around him rushed to get together papers and finish their morning coffees.
“Rodney, see you at lunch, man. I have a hankering for pizza,” one of the other teachers said. Rodney laughed, that was Carson Beckett. They’d known each other for years. They attended school together and both trained to be teachers. Luckily enough, they were both able to find work in the same school.
“OK, Carson, I’ll meet ya in the cafeteria later,” Rodney replied as he watched Carson go, thus leaving him alone in the staff room with one of the science teachers, Miss Fleur. Rodney inwardly groaned: Miss Fleur had always had a crush on Rodney; she didn’t seem to understand that he was gay, that he liked men.
“Such a terrible tragedy, Mr. McKay. He was so young.” She looked very upset and shaken and Rodney was suddenly overcome with sympathy for her.
“You're right, Miss Fleur, it's such a waste.” Then the door of the staff room opened and a head full of messy spikes over a big smile peeked around the door.
“Urm, excuse me. I was wondering where I can find room 5B. I appear to be a little late.” The stranger laughed quite loudly, and that alone made Rodney smile.
“You must be John Sheppard” Rodney stood from his chair and walked over to the door, picking up his briefcase and laptop on the way.
“Yes that’s me. I’m making a brilliant first impression so far, I’m already late.” Once again there was that laugh, it was infectious, carefree. It was obvious that Mr Sheppard had not been informed of why he was hired, or maybe he was just trying to lighten the mood. Rodney was kind of wondering why John still hadn’t emerged from behind the door.
“Well I'd be happy to show you to room 5B. This place is a rabbit warren. I got lost on my first day, too.”
John slowly emerged from behind the door and stood directly in front of Rodney. To say Rodney was shocked was an understatement. He was absolutely blown away. Standing before him was a tall, well-built, lean man, with the most piercing green eyes he’d ever seen. John had short, spiky, dark brown hair, and a charming smile lit up his handsome features. His perfect, pearly white teeth seemed to gleam at Rodney, and soft, supple lips begged to be kissed. Rodney swallowed thickly. He did NOT need a hard on for the second period.
“Thank you that’s very kind of you Mr...”
Rodney responded, quickly cutting in.
“McKay. Rodney McKay.”
John winked at Rodney and the smile seemed to get wider and he shook Rodney’s hand.
“Very nice to meet you, Rodney.” And Rodney tried not to notice the smooth, seductive tone of his voice or the way he licked his pouty red lips. He also tried not the notice the electricity he felt coursing through his veins from the touch. John let go of Rodney’s hand, much to Rodney’s disappointment.
“So, 5B?” Rodney almost tripped on his feet on the way out the door, and he couldn’t help but feel John’s eyes on him. John was right: he certainly makes a great first impression.
