(no subject)
another city, another hotel room.
at least this is one of my favorite, if not my favorite, hotel in the country. and i've stayed at a lot of hotels this past year.
tomorrow starts our Fall Kick-off Meetings. we've been gearing up for so long, I'm just ready for them to be over and to discover everything that can go wrong. it's one of those times...anything that can go wrong will. i can just feel it.
oh well...nothing i can do now but wait it out and do my best. new staff orientation tomorrow and then the fall kick-off for the southern part of the state on wednesday. a li'l break and then the same thing all over again next week for chicago and south suburbs (read: much bigger meetings and more of them). we always start in the south and work our way towards chicago since there are so many fewer southern grantees...we can fix things along the way.
cristine and i had some sort of springfield tradition tonight called a horseshoe. it was amazingly good and horribly grotesque at the same time. basically, you start with a piece of texas toast, cover it in some sort of meat (ground beef for us), drench it in cheese sauce, cover that with french fries drenched in cheese sauce, and top it all with bacon. thank you, midwest for making fatty fatty fat fat meals. very yummy though.
i feel bad for sort of dropping off the face of the earth for about 2 weeks. at least off the face of the earth for anyone outside of chicago. i owe at least 4 people some serious phone calls. most are a long time coming, but one is a LONG time coming. but i think about all of you every day and one of you at least has snuck into my dreams of late...which sort of makes it harder to call. the anticipation, the nervousness...the way we (read: I) left things.
random thought: i really like when my pandora plays several "thumbs up" songs in a row and then plays some new gem that i love. thank you, pandora, for being awesome. please don't go away.
