Well, I'm glad you enjoyed at least some points of Midnight. I personally loved only one episode - the one with the use of vampire blood as a drug. It was just so sexy. Also, the writing was horrendous, you're right - but I hope that that is just due to the writer's strike.
As for the next show to watch, I'm in the middle of Season 1 of Skins and I LOVE it. Basically, I want to have the BBC's babies.
You mean Moonlight. :D Freudian slip? Yeah, I enjoyed the Jason Dohring bits, and Alex O'Laughling was even funny at times, but I guess I'm just too disillusioned with this kind of love stories to be swept up in them anymore. Plus, the awful writing. Heh, this show probably just had the misfortune of airing in the year of the writer's strike (the pilot and the premise were good, it just went downhill from there), but as it is yeah, it deserved to get the drop.
Oooh, Skins! That's the one RTD and Ben Cook talked about in The Writer's Tale, right? I'll get right on that.
Hm, there are actually two mistakes in my comment. You are right, it was Moonlight :-). And, the BBC is not the network responsible for Skins, but I suggest you watch it nonetheless.
Re: your thoughts on Moonlight. My thoughts: THIS.
Hmm, a show to rec: S1 of Life was amazing, although S2 isn't AS good. I love Terminatior: Sarah Conner Chronicles. How I Met Your Mother and The Big Bang Theory are great. I don't know if you're very partial to the original Life on Mars, but I'm really enjoying the US version.
Heh, we do seem to be often sharing a mind lately! I don't consider it time wasted (bare chest of JD? YUM), and it wasn't horrible, but it kind of annoys me to see something that evidently had a lot of potential at the beginning being literally thrown in the trash like this. Oh, and I forgot to say, I liked the new DA! What was his name? He seemed to be shaping up quite nicely, but he was obviously being set up for S2, which never happened, so... Although the list of vampires at the very end was quite intriguing. Maybe they would have explored the vampire society in S2, had they had the chance. Oh well. *shrugs*
Oh, HIMYM! Heard of it! Sounds like fun. Never heard of Life and The Big Bang Theory, but I'll check them out. I've only heard great things about the Sarah Connor Chronicles, but do you need to have previous knowledge of Terminator? Because I haven't seen any of the movies.
That was one of the frustrating things about ML, you could see the potential for a better show. Ah well.
HIMYM is AMAZING, TBBG is hilarious. And, again, the first season of Life is fantabulous! As for T:SCC, no, you don't need to have watched the movies because the show explains the background pretty much.
Your opinions mirror mine exactly. The turning scene was actually my favorite, but the Josh dying scene is a close second. I thought it was well done and it shined compared to the rest of the writing. I did warn you that it was like bad fan fiction. LOL!
I think the worst one for me was the episode with the fire. The photos were so awfully put together and not believable at all that anyone would be able to see anything in them.
Gosh, it was like having a flashback to Buffy/Angel. YEUCH! So over that.
I love everything of the turning scene, from Josef trying to prove his point to when he asks Mick to forgive him to the whole... sucking thing. Beautifully acted and directed. And yeah, the Josh dying scene is the only one in which I felt actually emotionally connected to the show and anxiously wanting to know what would happen next.
Oh, I can't think of a "worst one"... although that whole celebrity/paparazzi episode was quite eyeroll!worthy, apart from the last scene between Josef and Beth. Oh, and the maybeMickisafather one. WTF? Talk about out of the blue. And as the second to last episode, too!
I'm fairly picky about my TV shows, so the ones I watch usually come from Showtime or HBO and have to be rented or watched online.
I find Dexter to be absolutely amazing. Not the most original show on television (another crime drama), but having the main character be a serial killer that you absolutely fall in love with really gives the series an interesting twist. I also really liked Dead Like Me. Unfortunately, it is no longer being aired, but the two seasons are both available on DVD. The premise: a girl dies after being hit will a toilet seat that plummeted from an airplane, and instead of going on to the afterlife she becomes a grim reaper.
I'm also a big The West Wing fan, but if you're not into politics it can be a bit long-winded. I honestly am not a huge fan of politics, but the writer of the show is my favorite screen writer, so it appeals to me.
I love Dead Like Me, and I'm waiting anxiously for the movie that is to be released straight to DVD this February (less than a month to go! YAY!)
I am a HUGE West Wing fan! I went through all 7 seasons last spring and I love it to bits.
I have never tried Dexter, though I've heard nothing but great things about it. I don't know, I think it's the premise of it being about a serial killer that squicks me a bit... but so many people have recommended it to me, I just might give it a try.
