Is This Jakarta? My Lovely City ?!?!

Recently my city no have a good weather. Everyday is rain, specially last Thursday on 17 January which made my city was so badly in floods.

Last Thursday, I woke up on 2.00 am because very loud thunder. It turned out heavy rain with thunder. In the morning, still didn't stop. I didn't know but at that time, I just decided to send message to my Big Boss that I didn't go to the office. A few minutes later, got messages from some co-workers if they also didn't go to the office because streets in front of their houses began to flood & some their houses began to flood too. Others co-workers who has being on the way to the office, trapped in flooded-streets so they went back to the home. Watched TV, it turned out that mostly area in my city hit by floods, included the main street where my office building is located. My office building is located in the area of Central Business District (CBD), streets of Thamrin & Sudirman. CBD is area where so many buildings of the offices located.

My office is so near from this this central roundabout of Bundaran HI, may be 100-200 meters ~

This BBC reporter reported with Bundaran HI was on the back of her right side.

You can watched BBC news here :
Indonesian capital Jakarta hit by deadly flooding
Indonesian capital, Jakarta, hit by floods

These pictures were taken from the area around of Bundaran HI. I couldn't imagine if went to the office at that time. Mostly offices in the CBD forced their staff to go home early regarding flooding. And mostly of them have to be evacuated to pass the street.

Did you believe it what these people at the hotel was doing while flooding? @#&%$()!? The hotel is so near to Bundaran HI. Believe it or not, I was sooo relieved that my company never used or booked this hotel for our event, gathering, symposium, etc. Of course it isn't this hotel's fault, but at least this hotel could warn their guest to not swimming for a while during what happened with people in flooding. As a human, they have to give a sympathy, right? The text of this picture said:"These guests in the pool at a luxury hotel carried on swimming  while others around them were fleeing the floods."

Others areas & residential area

One thing that get a paid attention a lot was some co-workers trapped in one of the office buildings in the CBD, UOB Plaza. And this UOB Plaza is so near with Bundaran HI & also with my office building. 4 co-workers of UOB Bank trapped in 3 basement-floors. Basically this building has 4 basements under the ground for parking area. 2 people survived but others didn't & hope they're in the God place now.

These videos showed when the water was flowing so fast into basements of UOB. Somehow I salute for rescue team from SAR of military who such didn't care their own safety to safe other people ~

The evacuation process. On 1st day, no-one could be found. 2nd day, 1 co-worker saved by him-self on 08.30 am by swimming with motorcycle tire which he found in the 1st basement, through a door near the escalator and worked out. While in the 1st basement for about 24 hours, he floated used that tire. Fortunately, before fainting, he had told to rescue team that his friend stuck in the same basement. Finally on 22:53 0r 10.53 pm, other co-worker, friend of 1st co-worker, was found struggling to live while holding the PVC pipe pole. He survived after 38 hours. Sadly the next day, the others, 2 co-workers found dead in 1st basement on 06.00 &.3rd basement on 15.00 or 03.00 pm. I was sure that mostly people in my city, like me, who their houses either flooding or not, or in my country, followed the progress of the rescue process. The ironic thing, some guests at the luxury hotel (located across to Bundaran HI) which soooooooo near with UOB Plaza were swimming while those 4 co-workers was struggling to survive.

I always thanks to God because my house didn't flood, although the main street outside my resident flooded. Till now, there's any area which still flood such on this area.

The bad thing, our BMKG (Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geohysical) said that last Thursday wasn't a climax flooding. The worst thing is predicted to occur on 26 or 27 January, one day or 2 days after Sho-kun's birthday!  :(( Hope it's not true.... Not true!!!!
