Deletion of bids is not allowed on GAs. They're binding on an auction. I did not bid past your $50 bid, because I didn't want to pay more than $50, seeing as you wanted it that badly. It's not a question of my wanting it or not.
$46 was my max bid, so once it went over, I considered you having won, simple as that. It's kind of you to bow out, but I feel as though I was tricked into bid warring with you, when these events occured the way they did. It's nice that you found an alternative colored figure for less, but I feel cheated with the way you deleted your bid and backed out, especially since you did so in quite a hurry. If you didn't want it, you should not have bid. This doesn't exempt me, either, but now I'm going to be out $46 because you suddenly 'changed your mind.' It's just very underhanded--at least, it seems that way to me.
If no one else bids, which I doubt they will, I'll bite the bullet and pay the amount I bid, since I'm bound to it, just please, be more careful about bidding in the future. Just like on eBay, you can't simply back out of bid unless you talk with the seller, and they're trying to make money off it, too. It's not good business practice.
What? Ok, I think you totally misunderstood any motives you think I may have had. o_o I'm a genuinely nice person, and I saw how desperately you wanted it. I don't see how you think I "tricked" you into bidding? If you don't want it, I will gladly pay 50$ for it, and re-bid. Also, I didn't "do it in a hurry". It was about half and hour later, where I had reflected on the fact that it seemed you wanted it more than I did. :/ I DO still want it, so if you don't and feel bitter about the situation, I will bid again, at 50. Please don't analyze the situation the way you think it is, I would've gladly spoken to you about it.
I AM careful when I bid, and I would NOT bid such a high amount if I were not serious about the item.
I have been eyeing the other mentioned mime for a while, and I knew it was a color you had, and that's why I just said I'd take it instead.
Honestly, I'm pretty hurt you think I "tricked" you, I don't even see why a person would do that? Why would I want you to loose money? That's ridiculous. I think you just over analyzed a situation where I was trying to be nice to a fellow collector.
No, I do not misunderstand what you were saying. I DO understand, however, that there are users on here that done this exact thing, in order to jack up the prices on GAs, and run people out of money.
You could be the nicest person in the world, but *I* don't know that. Half an hour is a very short window of time in the bidding world, and it appeared very suspicious to me to suddenly back out like that. I'm merely trying to look at this situation from all angles. I DO feel taken advantage of, because it was so heated, and then all of sudden, you got cold feet.
I'm not trying to be mean, I'm not trying to call you out on being someone cruel or hurtful. It's just a bad situation, to me. I am perfectly fine with paying what I bid; that isn't my issue. My issue is that you deleted a bid, when it isn't allowed, after allowing the price to run up that high, without first weighing your options (the other figure). That's how it looks to me. I am sure it doesn't appear that way to you, I'm just expressing how I feel about the matter. Again, I am fine with paying what I bid, since that was on me, but if you do bid again, I will not bid.
I don't think you do understand what I'm saying if you feel in any way tricked. :/
For me (who's used to bidding on ebay, LJ is still pretty new to me) a half an hour is a LONG time. I usually bid right away, unless I'm not home, or haven't seen the last bid. Also, again because I am new, I had forgotten the deleting bid thing. I read the description, and there was no mention of it, as I've seen there has been on other autions. Ergo, I thought it was ok, given the explanation I provided. Any suspicions you may have are entirely based on your passed experiences, because I just wanted you to have it. It was my way of "throwing in the towel". Obviously you can't know that I'm nice, but here's what I'm willing to do, and I literally HATE having any issue, however small with anyone. Especially since I thought you seemed like a really cool collector, and person. I'll go halfies with you. Obviously I won't get anything out of it, but closure on this issue. You pay 25$, I'll pay 25$, and you got your mime for 25$. It would eat me up if you thought in any way that I was a person trying to "jack prices up" (which I don't see anyone would do). Ok? Sound good? :)
As for the other figure, I liked it, but I liked the gunmetal one more. But after seeing HOW MUCH you wanted it, I decided to let it go. Plain and simple. After I give you the 25$, I will likely go purchase it.
The rules explicitly state deletion of bids are not allowed. Though I do sympathize; I've made my fair share of mistakes here on the community as well, both as a new and also a fairly seasoned member. I do appreciate that you sent me a message, but at the time it was just a bad way to handle it, in my opinion. But! There is some good news here! While you offer is extremely generous, I contacted a mod in order to get some help with this, since I don't want anyone to be left out in the cold, as it were, and this is what they told me (copy and pasted from the PM I was sent)
"Hello,
I just messaged gengareric after discussing the situation with Gin. You would indeed be the highest bidder.
In these situations, we usually revert to the last valid bid before any two-person bid war involving the invalid bidder. This works when multiple users are bidding, since the price does not usually drop so drastically with so much competition for an item. Since it was only the two of you, that would take you back to $5, which can be really risky for a GA. However, we didn't think it was fair for pkmnexcavation to bid the price up drastically and then drop out like that, since they would be making you commit to what seems to be a significantly inflated bid. Our compromise is to have the high bid be 50% of the inflated bid at $23 rather than $46.
If you have any questions or concerns about the matter, please contact me as soon as possible so we can figure everything out before the GA ends. I'm getting some dental work tomorrow, so I won't be online in the afternoon/evening, but I provided gengareric with my personal phone number, should any issues arise. I'll check my messages tomorrow before I go in and will be staying up for a couple more hours, so I should be able to catch you before then and get everything worked out!
Sincerely,
Razeasha"
This, I think, is a much more reasonable solution, and this way, you're not just giving away your hard earned money for literally nothing. I couldn't accept your offer on good conscience anyway, since I know you like Mimey at least as much as I do. :) I think this is the best solution, personally, and I think you'll agree! $23 is a lot more reasonable than $50, unless you're serious about bid-warring again, haha.
I'm a bit tired, so I not totally get their solution? They're letting it go down to 23$ then? :o That's awesome! No worries about bid-warring, obviously I will be staying away from that entire GA from now on, lol. :'D Like I said there was no malicious intent, or anything even remotely related, and I was more than prepared to just bid again (for 50$) or pay half of the figure as an apology.
But I am glad if you can end up getting it for 23$. Congrats! :)
I also hope there are no hard feelings going forward, and you understand it was a genuine mistake, "handled poorly" or however you'd like to call it. I seriously acted in a mix of ignorance and what I thought was kindness. :)
Yes, the solution is to put the max bid amount to $23 (making me the high bidder). It's risky to lower the amount any more, because bid amounts count towards the cost of the GA, and help us win (it's hard to explain, but it helps the more that's bid).
I'm not worried about any malice, intended or otherwise! :) I really think both of us were just at a loss for what to do, so I took the best course of action available and put it in the hands of a mod. For now, I think all we can do is wait for gengareric or the other runner of the GA to adjust the figure on the new thread that was made. I will also be checking it tomorrow. I bear you no ill-will at all! It's just a stressful situation on all fronts, for everyone. I'm glad that the mods responded so quickly.
I hope you love the Mime figure you're getting!! He's a serious beauty; cameras don't do any justice to metal figures at all. I'm crossing my fingers for both of us. Take care! I hope to be a more active poster in the future; I'll be checking in to see how your mimey collection grows :3
Aww, thank you for the nice message. It really lifted a weight off my heart. ^_^ I am glad you'll be getting the mime, and I'll get the other guy. <3
I'm glad the mods handled it so well, and I hope the GA raises all the money it needs!
I can't wait to see your posts as well, and omgosh, my collection update will be a bit crazy, I have gotten so many new mime items since becoming a member, it's crazy! :'D
