They all had wives and children. All were stable in their marriages. All loved their families.
It's just they were friends with each other. Very close friends, spending hours together on the set and parties. It was all natural to go on further with that friendship. None of them really minded or considered it serious enough to feel remorse for cheating on their wives this way. It wasn't really a cheat. It was merely fun. They had a good time. That's all. Why complicate the situation?
They had double life, all of them. Shatner, Nimoy and Kelley.
They were happy with both sides of their life, hidden and public ones.

They just had these men only parties to themselves once in a while. It was all fun and each of them was satisfied and happy. Until they grew older and it started to occur to them that it was somewhat wrong. That marriage should mean something, really. That the responsibilities and promises they once gave should not be forgotten. Even if fun was concerned.

Sex after the shooting became less frequent and all three of them felt odd and awkward, often embarrassed even to raise a topic on that subject.
They loved their wives after all. But they missed their unforgettable joyful activities back when they were young. They dreamed to get it back. But time went by and it couldn't happen.

Luckily, they remained friends although not as close as they once were, and saved their marriages too. They raised good children, stayed kind and loyal to their wives. But the bittersweet memories of their true, loving, tender, intimate, amazing, secret moments together could not be replaced by any great moment within their marriages.
