Missing LJ

Jan 19, 2014 11:22

I'm always lamenting the fact that the LJ community seems to have dried up a bit since I first started posting here (about 8 years ago, I think?), and then I chide myself because I am the worst of the bunch!  I posted maybe 10 times in 2013, and most of that was just links to my other blog or my Etsy shop.  How awful of me!

I know a lot of the blame goes to facebook, because when I have a little musing or a picture to post, I tend to go there first.  The ease of posting over there is so hard to resist.  And then everyone got blogs, so I followed the herd over to blogger.  I suppose it is just a combination of things, but some of you are still so good about posting frequently and I love knowing what is going on in your sewing (and non-sewing!) lives.  I don't comment all that much, but I do still read frequently.

I'd really like to start posting more and commenting more, so this is me calling myself out!

Right now I'm working on an sheer Regency ballgown for a ball I'm going to in Boston on February 8th.  It was a last minute HEY-SOUTHWEST-IS-HAVING-A-GREAT-SALE trip, so we only found out we were going a couple of weeks ago.  I've had some green and red-shot silk organza in my stash for years (in fact, I bought it in Boston!), so that is being turned into an overdress as we speak.  Let me tell you, this stiff organza is THE WORST thing I have ever sewed with.  It is springy and pokey and pins just fall out of it.  Very annoying.  I am making good progress, though, and today I'm going to attach the bodice to the skirts.

Here are a few inspiration images I have been working with:

Can't find any damn info about this one.  A fashion plate I can't identify?!  I'm furious at myself!
