Last week before Christmas, whoo!
We managed to nab the last Christmas tree at the farm shop on Thursday, and I got the last bits I needed for Christmas presents. Thankfully the last tree was a good-looking one, and we prettied it up with some new decs and lights. Which meant we had extra lights, so our potted palm also got some prettying.
We had MiL and her partner over on Friday. We ordered a delivery from an online UK butcher of a cushion of venison, which was a little later than ideal (thanks DPD), but did eventually arrive in time for us to have dinner. G did an AMAZING job cooking a full roast, including a celeriac puree using celeriac from the allotment. It was delicious. And then he finished off with poached pears, which normally I would say is not an acceptable dessert, but they were incredible. I take back all my misgivings about cooked fruit.
And it was actually a pleasant afternoon! C managed to only say one mildly homophobic comment, and one mildly xenophobic comment, which has to be some sort of record. It went pretty well.
We went for a gorgeous walk in the last of the snow on Saturday. It was beautiful everywhere, sunshine and snow. Some of the mares were out in the top field, so we made a fuss of them, before heading back down to see Kiwi the gelding in the farm field. The video above is what happens when you give horses Polos in the cold - lots of tongues!

This week at work should be quiet, but the stuff I said was going to blow up on our Onboarding Project HAS blown up, and needless to say no one else is stepping up and fixing them, so I'm staring at Excel and Smartsheet this week. However, no one else is online, so at least I can just do work and have telly on in the background and take long lunches. I'm downing tools Thursday evening no matter what. This year has been full on at work, with role changes, team changes, promotions and handling multiple workloads. Thankfully it's recognised, and I've had a glowing end of year review, and our new hire starts in January to help lighten the load.
A sent us this gorgeous photo of the girls yesterday. It did make us realise that our mares are all far too similar in colour, but that's Libby (Cape Liberty) under the tree, Wootton Creek with a turkey stuffed over her ears, and Solly (Solemn Pledge) as a reindeer. Proof that they are all far more patient than I am!
