Rue often liked to drag Prim on long walks around… well, wherever they were. ‘Adventures’ she called them. For this was no small place, and the girls had all of eternity to explore it. They’d sometimes even come across different people, all with different stories as to how they met their end.

On one particular ‘adventure’, they spotted a small dark-headed boy sitting on his own, fiddling with something small, too small for either girl to see.

"Let’s go talk to him,” Rue suggested. “He looks kind of lonely.”

As they got closer, they saw that the boy was a few years younger than them, and that he was playing with a small figurine.

Prim was the first to speak. “Hi.”

Bright blue eyes looked up at them.

“I’m Prim and this is my friend Rue.” Rue gave the boy a small wave. “No offence, but you looked a little lonely. We were wondering if you wanted some company.”

The boy smiled. “That’d be great.”

“It’s nice to meet you,” he said, as he adjusted his glasses, clearly too big for him, and stored his little toy soldier in his pocket. “My name’s Max, by the way.”

The three of them stayed and talked for hours, until Prim and Rue heard Finnick and Cinna calling for them. The girls called them over, and introduced them to Max.

Cinna looked at the girls, “Well, we’d better get going, it’s getting late.” Not that time meant much to the dead. He started to lead the girls off in the direction he came with Finnick.

Rue looked back at Max, who now was looking at his hands, looking a little lost.

“Wait. Max, do you.. have anyone here? Or know anyone?”

Max shook his head.

“Well, he can stay with us, right Finn? Cinna?” Prim and Rue looked up at the two men, with hopeful expressions.

Finnick raised his eyebrows, and shared a glance with Cinna. “Sure, why not?”
