The last few weeks ive been working alot at one school. It nice because the students all kinda recognize me and the staff know me. It's a little like being famous where all the kids see you and then start shouting your name and waving. So I wave back 'Hi!!' (I don't really remember you name....)
Ive also bee able to be in the same class a couple days in a row a few times which is super sweet because I can leave things set up for myself the next day, and I have an idea of what the kids are doing and where they're at so I'm not floundering about as much.
This week I was in a grade 4 class where no plan had been left, and their schedule is all crazy because of christmas rehearsal things and the end of the term. So I was looking at their time table and getting myself mentally prepared to teach math as per the schedule, only to then discover that there is no math that day. Meaning I had to come up with an hour worth of lesson, right there on the spot.
Fortunately, grade 4 here means they learn about ancient egypt in history. Umm.. Score?
So we talk about gods and goddesses and mummification and pyramids for an hour. After which I discover that apparently their teacher wanted them to be doing egypty stuff to wrap up their unit all day anyways. More awsomeness.
I love teaching Egypt. Thank Thoth for the ROM.
I was so set for that day, and the next (being in the same class).
Also I've just accepted a long term position at the school.
As of january, I'm a grade 4 teacher! Woooot!!
Meaning I'll be here working full time in my very own classroom until the end of july.
Definitely a very positive career move.
