As promised previously, we are now officially discussing the option of moving Taxon off of Livejournal and on to Dreamwidth.
We're certain a number of you have gone through this in other games and communities but for those who have not, there are several reasons to potentially make this move:→ The changes to Livejournal's layout have made it so some people cannot access the site at all. The new comment pages and icon selector do not work on some mobile devices, and on some older machines or slower connections LJ simply will not load.
→ While we do have work-arounds for the comment page problems in place, they themselves present issues with long threads breaking off the edge of a page and becoming unreadable, as seen here. This has been an issue with using S2 custom comment pages for years, and there has been no effort on LJ's part to correct it. Additionally, with further changes on the way from LJ it is unclear how long even these work-arounds will be effective.
→ The DDoS attacks, while out of Livejournal’s control, do cause major service interruptions which can last for days or, as some of you have experienced, a week or more. Also the frequency of other outages and/or notifications being delayed for hours or even days causes problems almost every time LJ updates the site.
→ Lastly, there are concerns about LJ’s business practices, its staff’s attitude toward its users, and the direction the site is going in. Most of this is summed up here.
Dreamwidth was chosen as an alternative because it has much the same functionality we are used to with Livejournal, plus a few features but minus others. A very thorough breakdown of the differences, written especially with RPers in mind, can be found in this post.
Full disclosure: the mod team is somewhat divided on this issue, but we all agree that if the players wish to move then we will do so. A move will ONLY happen if the majority of you are in favor, and if there is a strong minority against it we will weigh our options. We cannot stress enough how important it is for you to vote, or that if you are unsure how to vote that you please share your opinions, concerns, or questions in the comments.
Ideally we want to hear from each and every one of you so we can try and make sure everyone is as happy as possible. Taxon is a small (and, we feel, tight-knit) community that’s already come through a lot recently, any decision we make is one we’ll make together.

EDIT: Mostly unrelated to this poll but: if anyone is interested, it seems LJ is offering refunds as a "one-time courtesy" if you put in a billing inquiry and made a payment in the past month. Details are here if you would like more info.
