[location: The Sanctuary, OPEN] Fred is poking around things she really probably shouldn't...

Aug 09, 2009 23:16

It had been a few days since Fred arrived, and she'd gotten sort of used to being here. The fact that Cordy had claimed there wasn't any way for them to get home was not, however, sitting well with the brainy girl. She didn't like problems she couldn't solve...especially when they were science based. When she had been trapped in another dimension, ( Read more... )

Well, well, well. What do we have here?

Gwen wasn't planning on popping in on the girl for awhile, really. Cordelia hadn't exactly been clear on whether or not Fred was from her time. She had been planning on making her fabulous entrance (and introductions, if need be) at the Hyperion Hotel, just like old times.

So here's Gwen, roaming the Sanctuary (she still hasn't gotten around to finding a place of her own, yet) and caught nearly completely off-guard. Cocking her head to the side, she can't help but sneak up behind her, quietly.

"Talking to yourself, cherry?" She asks with a smile. "Careful, people might think you're crazy."

If Fred is startled by Gwen's words, she doesn't seem to show it. In fact, she doesn't seem to realize Gwen spoke to her for a good ten seconds or so. Then, without looking up from her computer. "Oh, everybody already thinks I'm crazy anyway, what with the writing on..." Pause, blinkblink...

"Oh!" She finally said as she turned around, staring at Gwen. "Uh...Hi There?"

Well. it's quite possible Gwen is disappointed by this greeting, which is rather friendly and very much not the greeting of a girl who 'still bears a grudge against her'. First Cordelia, now Fred. Why is she the only one not stuck in the past?

Maybe she just hasn't recognized her yet. Gwen will give her a sec. Let the leather and the gloves the red and white hair-streaks sink in.

No? Well, damn. "Hi. You don't...know me, do you? Gwen," she says with a sigh. "We met. Meet, in the" (a little wave of the hand for emphasis) "future."

Here, have Fred blinking some more. The woman was rather oddly dressed really, and looking her as if she expected something of Fred. What had she forgotten? Well, crap. Social interaction was tricky sometimes!

"Uh." Before she could manage anything else, the woman explained, and Fred's eyes went wide. "Ooh, this is like the Conner thing, where Cordy said he'd already been born but I knew he hadn't because Darla only just turned up so she must have been from the future, like you're from the future..." Pause, breath. "...How far into the future?"

Did somebody say science?

Because that's what Billy is doing. Science. He's almost finished with his freeze ray. He's got it basically completed, he's just working out the kinks. So right now, he's testing it out on random objects in the room, throwing apples and stuff in the air and trying to freeze them in mid-air with the gun.

So feel free to come up behind him and scare the crap out of him. He just wandered out into the main hall like a minute ago, totally not paying attention to anything or anyone in the area.

Fred looked up after a few minutes, when she finally seemed to realize someone was there, and turned just in time to see him freezing something. "Hey!" She frowned, setting her laptop down as she stood up. "You can't freeze the stuff in here you might break things! And then I'll never get this place to do what I want..." Was she angry? Sort of. More like...startled and frightened, and channeling it into a sudden bit of overprotectiveness towards the machines.

Eep! Skittish Billy is skittish. When Fred speaks up, Billy jumps and drops the ray, and then makes a freaked out noise as he scrambles to grab it. It fizzles and pops for a second, and he hurried tosses it to the other side of the room.

Where it then promptly makes a small explosion.

Billy turns and looks at Fred, very annoyed. "Hey, what's the big idea, huh? You just-- killed it!"

Fred blinked in surprise and took a couple steps back as the young man freaked out and his gun exploded. She wasn't all that upset about the gun really, but she hadn't meant to make him that upset! Just get him to stop freezing things.

"I didn't mean to make you break your freeze ray..." She muttered. "But you mighta frozen something important."

Have a Cordelia bearing two cups of steaming coffee, freshly hatched from the hatch conveniently close to where Fred was.

"Here," she said, handing one to the other girl. "Thought you could use one."

Fred didn't look up until Cordy spoke, intent on staring at the panel, but when she did she smiled brightly. "Oh, thanks!" She said, reaching out to take the cup in one hand, then setting down her tools and holding it between both her palms as she took a long sip. "I really could, this is harder than it looks you know." Was she joking? She'd mostly been sitting there thinking for the last few hours. But thinking could be hard!

She frowned at the panel as she took another sip of her coffee, her glasses sliding slightly down her nose as her head tipped forward. "I'm really not sure I'm accomplishin' much of anythin' here, Cordy..." She muttered.

Well, no surprise there - but far be it from Cordelia to ruin anyone's fun and actually stop Fred from doing her thing! Of course, there's disappointment, too - but hey, at least Fred tried.

"What were you trying to do?" she asked, sitting next to the girl and trying to peer at the laptop.

"Just...just understand it." Fred said, turning away from the panel. "Figure out how it works. I can't make it do anything, I can't...figure out how to send us home...if I don't know how it does what it does. I'd like to know Why too but I doubt the poor computer knows any more than we do."

She took another sip of her coffee and shrugged.
