When someone comes home after a long day of battling creepy demons and averting apocalyptic disasters from ever hitting the city - otherwise known as a normal day at the office - she will expect that, when she opens her door she will see very familiar and comforting things to her ( Read more... )

Buffy's steadily getting used to people she knows randomly showing up in Taxon-- in fact she's beginning to think the kidnapping aliens have a thing for Sunnydale. However: Cordelia? Not somebody she was expecting. She blinks at her tablet to make sure she's not having some kind of crazy hallucination.

"Holy-- hi, Cordelia."

Okay, did that last demon they fought excrete some sort of gooey, icky substance that somehow got sprayed on her person? Maybe she's hallucinating. Maybe--

She recognizes that voice at once. Okay, maybe after a few seconds. Still, she clings to that voice.

"Buffy! Buffy I need your help!"

Under normal circumstances 'Buffy I need your help' would warrant crossbows and lots of yelling, but in this case the slayer is a lot more sedate than usual. Still, she's ready with some placating!

"Okay, Cordelia, calm down. You're safe. Not, you know... especially safe, but at a 'nothing is going to eat you' level of safe. I promise. You're in that metal chamber, right?"

"Yes," she answers quite quickly. Anything to get out of that room, really. Even without the dangers of... the eating kind, the level of creepiness does not lessen the longer she's inside it.

"How do I get back home?"

"Okay, well you can get out of there by taking this faux-Blackberry with you-- the door at the bottom of the stairs should unlock." She explains, equally quickly. Buffy really didn't love the arrival chamber that much when she arrived either.

Cordelia might notice that she looks a little bit uncomfortable with that particular question. "Getting back home is... something we're working on. We don't know yet."

"Faux-Blackberry. Got it." Cordelia lifts the thing out of its pedestal - and sure enough, the door opens. "That door is... okay, where does that door lead to, exactly?"

"It leads to a building called the Sanctuary-- it's sort of like a... sci-fi motel. It's perfectly safe, but try not to wig when the door disappears behind you."

Buffy's already pulling shoes on by this point, and looking around the house for other people to make up the welcoming committee. (Apparently she just missed Xander.)

"Okay. Yeah, sure. I can handle motels, nothing to worry about," she mutters. If Buffy says it's perfectly safe, then it should be.

"Here goes nothing." Cordelia exhales loudly before taking small steps towards the door.

"You'll be fine." Buffy reassures, in a way she hopes is convincing, as she pulls the front door closed behind her.

"I'm on my way to meet you now, I'll just be a few minutes."

A Sunnydale reunion is not something she thought will happen today, of all days. Still, it comes as a great relief that at least people she knew are coming to get her - now.

"Thanks," she says. "I don't doubt that you will be!"
