[location: John Everton's House] [OPEN TO ALL!] BLOCK PARTY!!!

Jul 03, 2009 19:39

The time had come. Charlotte left John in charge of setting up the bar, giving him only the one request that he have a decent selection of beer, and did the work of dialing up the food. She knew she was going way over board. For all she knew no one might show up, even though she'd gotten a bit of a response to her invite. How could people ( Read more... )

The Deadmobile idled in front of John's house as Cassie looked out the passenger window. She'd been driving around the city, nothing better to do and noticed the decorations and the people milling about. Cassie wasn't much of a partier, but she'd done it once. It was a cover, of course. Hunting Father Wrath on Spring Break. She'd drank, danced with a cute boy, kissed a girl. But all for the sake of getting the slasher. Course, the vomiting and the hangover the next morning weren't exactly awesome, but she'd survived. But would she survive this?

With no Vlad to make fun of it with her....

Cassie sighed, raking her fingers through her hair. "...the fuck, man?" She growled to herself. "It's not like you can't excuse yourself if you don't feel welcome or just get fucking bored. You gonna do it or not?" She noticed Dean's Impala parked not far from her and she arched an eyebrow. At least she'd know one person for sure. Biting at her bottom lip, she exhaled sharply, then ran her fingers through her hair again, making sure it didn't look completely jacked.

Climbing out of the van, she shut the door, glancing down at herself. Her usual attire wasn't exactly people-friendly, but she didn't feel over or underdressed. Steeling herself, Cassie started up the walkway that led around to the back of the house. Lifting her hand, she knocked at the door, waiting awkwardly for it to be answered. She may curse like a sailor, and kill things for a living, but she still had some manners.

The knock startled John. He was the only one in the house, for the moment, and certainly wasn't expecting the knock. Maybe someone needed the bathroom. Or they just hadn't gone all the way back yet.

He opened the door and smiled. "Hello?" It took him a moment to recognize that he didn't recognize her. "Oh! You're here for the party?" He grinned.

Gathering himself up, he stepped out the door and gestured that she come with him the rest of the way around the house and to the party proper.

Cassie gave a lopsided smile in reply to John's greeting. "Uh, yeah, I guess," Cassie nodded. There's still a chance to get out now. Can't be forcing smiles all night, you're face'll start to hurt.

"Thanks," Cassie said, stepping inside, looking around the place. It was homey, which was something Cassie was completely not used to the past few years.

"This your place?" She asked. God, that was nosy of you, Cassie. Just cause a guy answers the door doesn't mean it's his house. You suck at social interaction when Slashers aren't involved.

Charlotte hadn't realized John was inside when she went in. Someone had suggested a pitcher of a mixed drink she didn't recognize and they needed a clean pitcher. She'd fetched it and was headed back out when she heard the voices.

Standing in the doorway to the living room, she cleared her throat. "It is. He completely busts all my stereotypes of how a man lives alone." She looked around at the room, which really was homey and pleasant, with a soft smile. "Of course, the kittens are going to shred everything."

Cassie's gaze snapped to Charlotte when she'd spoken, her features remaining neutral. Glancing around the living room, she nodded. "Seems a little too clean for a dude to be living here."

Cassie's eyebrows arched at the mention of kittens, then chuckled. "That is what they do," she nodded.

"I'm Cassie."

"Would you believe I found it this way when I moved in? And he picks up his socks, too. Very nearly the perfect man, I swear." She put her hand out to John who, she thought, looked a little trapped with two women in his space. "I'm Charlotte and this is John. Welcome to the party."

"No kidding. You sure he's on the up and up?" Cassie asked, glancing over at John with a small smirk.

She nodded politely. "It's nice to meet you."

They seemed friendly enough and it's not like they were bombarding her with doozens of questions that would lead to her sob story. Really wouldn't want to bring the party down like that. At least wait till they were drunk. As if on cue, her stomach rumbled a little and her cheeks flushed.

"Shit, I'm sorry," She muttered.

"Not a problem, just means you're hungry like the rest of us," Dean's voice comes from behind John and Charlotte. He's investigating, like the nosy dude he is, and it's obvious he has no problems with just barging into the house or the conversation.

"You looking to starve us, Mr. and Mrs. Host?" Dean jokes easily, sipping his beer.

Dean's comment has earned an eyeroll from John, then he nodded. "Right. Food. Time to see if I made that grill functional. Pleasure to meet you, Cassie. Don't let these two scare you too much. They're harmless."

With that, John makes his escape, a plan now firmly set in his mind. Make food.

Charlotte watched John flee with a mock scowl. He was really doing so well, she wouldn't scold him. For now. Instead she turned to the others and shook her head. Only then did she realize what Dean had said. "Not Mrs. Really. That's Ms." She bit her lip. "We aren't married."

She was very glad John was gone and couldn't hear her babbling about it.

At that familiar voice, Cassie smiled, looking to the hunter. "Thought I saw your ride out front," Cassie said, jutting her thumb back towards the door she just entered through. She nodded then watched as John skedaddled from the small group.

"But you are together, right? If you don't mind my asking. Fuck, that's rude of me. Hasn't even been five minutes yet," Cassie sighed, giving Charlotte an apologetic look.

Oh, hooray, food! Dean hadn't been expecting John to go so quickly. But it gets him food, so he's not complaining.

"You thought right," Dean replies, grinning at Cassie. Charlotte, though? Her reaction's a bit weird, and Dean raises an eyebrow at her. So they aren't married, but they've got to be together, considering the whole kissing thing he'd walked into earlier.

"Yeah, they're together. I think. Unless I'm completely wrong, but that's only on rare occasions," Dean remarks, still watching Charlotte. "How about we get the answer from Ms. Host, herself?"

"Yes, we're together." Charlotte didn't normally blush in social situations. Too much training as a child and too much professionalism as an adult, but this turned her an attractive shade of pink. "Just not married. We've only known each other a few months." A remarkably few months, counting New York and Taxon, to be living together and being mistaken for Mr. and Mrs.

"Oh. Heh. Sorry about the nosing. I wasn't thinking," Cassie said, her own cheeks flushing and she bites her bottom lip. Wetting her lips, she looked from Charlotte to Dean and back again.

"I keep being a pain in the ass. Anyone mind showing me where the drinks are? I was a fucking idiot and forgot to hatch myself a water bottle as I was driving around," Cassie asked.

"No need to apologize. I'm still getting used to it is all." And John would go saying serious things about love and confusing her completely. "Combine that with getting used to this place and it's a bit of an overload."

She turned to Dean. "Would you take Cassie out and show her around, maybe introduce her to some of the less intimidating guests? And then maybe give John a hand with the grill?" She smirked. "I know that's a man thing."

"It'd be my pleasure." Dean replies to Charlotte. He offers his arm to Cassie, grinning at her. "And it's definitely a man thing. One of the manliest things. Try not to get into any trouble, Charlie."

And he'll be escorting Cassie to the drinks, if she'll be letting him. C'mon, Cassie, let Dean treat you like a lady.
