Martha hadn't been expecting this. She hadn't expected the attacker to reveal himself and she certainly hadn't expected him to be sorry for what he'd done. The figure on the screen - pale and weary and covered in something that seemed to be ice - looked like a patient as well as a threat.
"You're a vampire."
But nothing like the vampires that had terrorised the city in the past.

He shuddered, nodding, lips twisting in some strange mix of shame and relief. "I'm a vampire. I haven't-- I--, the hatches aren't working. I didn't mean to hurt them, but the hatches--"

"Then we'll find a different way to help you," she vowed, "It's going to be ok."

Her offer was motivated by her friendship with the Doctor and her time on the TARDIS, but it was largely the result of her doctor's instincts. You helped anyone who needed it, you didn't pick and choose. You certainly didn't harm the person who needed your help.
"Is there anything you can tell me? Anything that might help?"

She was a good doctor and, even more importantly, she knew vampires in a way that Martha didn't.
And speaking of the surgery ...
"What about blood from a blood bank? Would that help? I just keep a small supply in the surgery in case of emergencies, but it might buy us time."
Right now, they needed any time that they could get.
