026: The Dead Will Walk [Location: Central]

Sep 27, 2011 21:46

When the sun had set and the flames had died down and the city had finally fallen silent, Drusilla emerged.

Although the smell of smoke still lingered in the air, it was the smell of fear that tempted her out into the open. Drusilla had never paid much attention to the Extras - they weren't human enough to talk to, but they were still too human for her to eat - and had never thought of them as having feelings. The sudden wave of emotion had been enough to make her deliciously dizzy.

She was no fool, though. Fire would kill a vampire as surely as a stake to the chest or a ray of sunlight to the heart. She waited until it had burned itself out to make her way to the centre of the city in search of something to fill her rumbling tummy. After all, if they were already dead, the chip in her head couldn't punish her for taking a sip. They might be a little stale, but they'd still be fresher and more pleasant that the blood that she obtained from the hatches.

The spring in her step - as if she was attending a party that someone had thrown just for her - disappeared when she drew nearer to the heart of the city. The scent was gone. Not just fainter - and it should have been getting stronger, not weaker! - but gone.

When she turned the corner, she let out a noise that was somewhere between a scream of rage and a cry of frustration.

It was all gone. She'd been busy biding her time, but the hamsters had been busy rebuilding the hollowed builds and cleaning away the bodies that had littered the street. There weren't even any ashes for her to wade through! Only the faintest echoes of fear and destruction told the tale of the games that she'd missed and the mess that they'd taken such pains to hide.
It wasn't fair.
