[ it's something of a tradition, albeit one that declined as things in taxon sped up and spun out of control; dawn and river dancing ballet together. being as they're all stuck and in pajamas now, there's no better time to revive it than the present

At least it looks like people are keeping themselves entertained--which is really more than he can say about himself. Even so, sitting still for a moment probably won't kill him, and it could always be worse. Of course, it does mean he's taken a sudden rather keen interest in his tablet--which may or may not be a good thing.

"Looks like you're keeping yourselves occupied.

"Occupational hazard of captivity," is River's explanation now that she's stopped spinning. Then, after a pause and gulp of water she adds, "We're avoiding liver damage," to give him an idea of other (apparently) acceptable coping mechanisms.

Corwin almost laughs at the last comment, but he manages to cut himself off--barely--and go with an amused expression instead. "Glad to see you're upstanding citizens. But liver damage is only half the fun."

"I know," she answers in absolute deadpan. "Other symptoms of the physiological state are temporary euphoria and vomit."

Things have been seen, Corwin, that cannot be unseen.

He doesn't even try to hide the laugh this time. In other circumstances, he might have gotten along rather well with this one. As it is, he can at least have someone else to talk to.

"Yes, I know about those, too. Trying to ruin my fun?"

"No," said with a stretch and almost-smile-mostly-lopsided twitch of her lips. "Factual dispensation. I get paid."

River neglects to clarify that she never actually does that part of her job.

"Clearly they aren't paying you enough," he shot back, entirely amused and not even bothering to hide it. "Have you asked for a raise lately?"

"It's a fixed rate," she says, not at all disappointed. Credits come and go as they like, and she hasn't found a way to change it yet. She hasn't ever really need to, either.

"Theft is a loophole."

"At least it's an entertaining loophole." If a little nerve wracking at times. That, of course, depended on what was being stolen and how much he cared about getting caught with it, but for the most part, it was entertaining.

"I suppose it could be worse."

Someone tried to teach River the fine art of being an upstanding citizen that doesn't steal things once. The effort was commendable in the face of the task.

Needless to say, she backslid in record time.

"Wobbly headed geisha dolls," she agrees with great solemnity. "And bullets."

"I've a brother I think you'd like." Never mind that he was supposed to be king, now and probably didn't have "time" for stealing. Still, even though the little rat knew that he could get whatever he wanted from asking, he'd still try and steal it first.

"Kindred spirits, maybe."

Oh, her mood takes a sudden downturn and she frowns down at her suddenly very interesting toes.

"Brothers are a common feature." Also, a sore spot, but she recovers quickly, rolls her head back up with a lopsided half-smile and raised eyebrows. "Mine's a doctor."

"Mine's a rat trying to make us all think he's the cat." There was still a lot of wonder as to why the unicorn had chosen him, but then he didn't really have an agenda for the throne since he'd figured that he'd never had it. So maybe there was some wisdon there after all.

"I've a few, if you'd like one or two."

"One is enough," and she doesn't sound quite as solid in her conviction on that point as she could. "Species-based identity crises are complications."

Corwin simply shrugs, shaking his head. It wasn't as if his brothers would be entirely agreeable to being given away in the first place, though there were still a few that he'd prefer to be rid of. "Your loss, I suppose."

"Not quantifiable," is River's totally-not-intending-to-insult response. "Assessment's based on perception."

A beat, then further clarification.

"I don't know them."
