It's around five o'clock in the morning when the citizens of Taxon find themselves inexplicably transported into rooms within
the Sanctuary. Doors are left open and beds unmade, food abandoned and lights left on, still shining brightly for those who were awake and are no longer present. The Extras don't seem to notice the captive population's

And so Glitch, clad in ornately paisley blue and gold silk pajama pants and a tatty blue t-shirt, emerged from room four and blinked blearily around the hall and...kitchen. Quaint, but not the palace, and he wrinkled his nose at the text message on the tablet before clicking to visual.
"'Technical difficulties'? I-is that supposed to be some improvement on...that other word?"

Stress, he could deal with as well, given the right circumstances (and the right amount of it, as any man would break under too much pressure).
"Is it just me, or did they amp up the Sanctuary?"

The second question earned a raised eyebrow. "I'm probably the last person to notice any changes to this place, Cain, but if you say so I'm not gonna argue."
He wandered further into the kitchen, turning the tablet so Cain had a view of Glitch-cam. "This does look nice. Cozyish."

It's one of the things he's come to miss since coming here: digging his hands into the ground, sticking around to watch new life grow right out of it.
"I think you'll like the floor I'm on even better than yours."
Reply
Because yes, they were going to be let out and then Cain would do night gardening instead of weird patroling. All was well in Glitch's world.
"...better than food?" Good luck, tin man.
Reply
"I don't know yet.
"But there might be apple trees. Or bushes full of berries. Vegetable patches."
Well, there goes the Not Getting Hopes Up plan, Cain.

Because if there aren't any fully grown apple trees, Cain's got half a mind to plant one just to watch it grow.

A bit became after sorting out River's lobster issues, and by that point he'd utterly forgotten nibbles. No matter, he's there and ooo-ing at the greenery in his silk pants and short sleeved shirt.

He's just about to start a new row, and is choosing between a few varied options.
Might just say yes to a bit of help, deciding.

"Oh, you've been productive," he remarked with a nod and prodded the dirt with his bare toes. "Or or I got sidetracked for longer than I thought. Or both!"
He grinned cheerfully, invigorated by the greenery.

And then he waited a touch longer, until he turns his head at the sound of his friend approaching. He nodded in reply, the front of his white pants coated in a dusty wash of dirt. It's part of the charm of tending to plants. One way or the other, you would get stains. Grass stains, dirt, pollen and so on. It didn't matter. It was par for the course.
"Want to help me decide what to plant? Anything within reason."
Reply
Old news, forgotten and irrelevant. There were more pressing matters.
"But yeah, I'll help. What are the reasonable choices?"

He handed Glitch a small box with plenty little containers, neatly labelled and numbered. Tomatoes, different types of berries and fruit, olives, all conceivable types of seeds.
"If you don't find anything you like there, there's other stuff in the storage room. Stuff you don't grow from seeds.
"But to answer your question: anything you can grow in a vegetable patch that won't nix the other plants. Climate's suitable for almost anything, I think."
Not being an expert on Otherside flora, and all.
And it's so much easier to talk about such things than to acknowledge Glitch's scars (which he didn't think he could without seeming like a complete and utter mother hen).

"Okay the vines might go all over but if you plant it at the edge of the patch, maybe put up a row of pole beans to separate them out..." The engineer stopped talking and the headcase took over. "We'll have pie for weeks, and and they'll be orange and hefty."
Reply
Tapping his chin thoughtfully, he plucked the container from Glitch's hands. "And not just pie. You can do lots of things with pumpkin. Roast, mash, soup, cakes, bread, you name it."
