It wasn't like there was a shortage of bars in Taxon, it was just that a vast majority of them lacked a certain something. Atmosphere. Style. A staff not consisting of Extras

He'd balked, he'd dug in his heels, he'd whined about being taken away from his work, but now that he was out Glitch felt somewhat relieved. The generator and his myriad other projects had started to consume his life, and while the long hours in the shop were (hopefully) bringing him closer to getting his brain back, they'd also taken him away from things that mattered. Tonight, he could work on fixing that.
Glitch returned to the table where he'd left DG and his drink, toting a basket of chips and a selection of condiements, with a karaoke song book tucked under his arm. He gave DG a sheepish grin as got everything arranged before seating himself.
"Couldn't decide what I wanted so...I I took a little bit of everything," he remakred and gestured to the tray laden with anything one would want to put on a french fry. "I have no idea how I'm gonna pick a song."
Especially since, by rights, he shouldn't know any.
It hadn’t been easy to persuade Glitch to abandon his work for the evening, and, in a way, DG was rather surprised that she’d succeeded. She surveyed the bar with an air of triumph while her companion wandered off in search of condiments, sipping her drink and listening to the music. For a moment, everything seemed almost normal.
Almost. Despite her best efforts, DG still didn’t know why Glitch was working so hard at the moment. She was worried. He was going to exhaust himself - not to mention forget important details like meal times - and there were days when she barely saw him at all. It wasn’t healthy. It wasn’t healthy and it was definitely a cause for concern.
“Just pick one you like the sound of and make it up as you go along?” she suggested, leaning over to nonchalantly steal one of his chips.
Glitch chuckled and shrugged. "That's bound to be entertaining, at least," he remarked, then snagged a chip of his own before flipping the book open. "Which is the point, I I guess."
Entertaining. Fun. The point. Yes, he'd been missing out of late.
"You can go first," she said, peering upside down at the book and trying to decide what to sing. The last time she'd performed in public, it hadn't been a voluntary show. At least the hamsters hadn't given her the chance to waste the evening on internal debates.
"You're welcome. It feels like weeks since I've seen you properly."
"Terrific," Glitch drawled as he studied the listings, then blinked. Some of the song titles popped tunes, and occasionally lyrics into his head. Maybe he did know more Otherside songs and had just forgotten them? Or maybe it was alien trickery. In any case, it'd make things easier.
"Yeah, I've-" And there it was, all thoughts on the subject, all ability to talk about it directly (no matter how much he longed) to just gone. He had to say something though, offer some explaination. "I've...just...had so many ideas lately, for things, and and I figure if I can help people then...I should. While I have the ideas."
He'd just keep on telling himself that was the entire truth, even as his heart ached from knowing that it wasn't.
"You don't need to explain," DG assured him, giving him a kiss on the cheek when he struggled with his apology. "I understand."
It was the price that you had to pay for falling in love with an absent minded genius. Sometimes, their projects took over. She loved his creativity and she loved his kindness. The last thing she wanted was for Glitch to feel guilty about it.
