Jayne arrives less than a half hour later on the mule, swinging a leg over the vehicle's seat and stepping off. He heads to the back, where he grabs a couple boxes from the wagon attached to the back and heads for the door. He's not sure if she heard him arrive, or if he should knock to announce himself. Initially, he plans to keep holding the boxes and just give the door a few kicks in a knock-like fashion, but then his Ma's voice is in his head scolding him, so he sets the boxes down, preparing to knock.
