Case #5 [Visual | Location: Taxon Library]

Jan 29, 2011 13:20

Kate propped the tablet up on the counter and flipped it on, waiting for the red light to come on before she backed up to speak. Behind her can be seen a long conference table in a windowed room, and through the window, what is obviously a library ( Read more... )

Spencer poured himself some coffee and was sure to add 4 packets of sugar to it. Taxon coffee tended to be more like motor oil.

While he had offered up the room in the library, Kate was the one running this show. He had taken a seat a few down from where she was, determined to let this meeting remain professional. Spencer stirred his coffee with a plastic straw, then gazed up at her.

"Do you have any specific agenda for this meeting?"

Jason is still very new to Taxon, but he knows a gathering when he hears about one. In fact, prior to his arrival anything mentioning police had been like a beacon for him. There was no reason for that to stop now.

After helping himself to a sprinkled doughnut, Jason heard the question from the only other male who was currently occupying the room. He stood next to him, not bothering to sit down and leaned against the table. "Hold your horses, bud. You gotta figure out who you've got before runnin' down the bad guys." He takes a bite of the doughnut, giving Reid a meaningful raise of the eyebrows. He doesn't notice the cluster of sprinkles that falls onto his jeans and the floor below.

Kate moved to rest her arm on the back of Reid's chair and leaned on it.

"We've got a pretty good idea who we've got, and we're not even sure if there are bad guys."

She looked him over and raised her brows.

"And you are?"

Jason looks confused at this revelation. "If we don't got bad guys, then why are we havin' a meeting?"

When Kate asks the question, Jason stands up straight and offers her his free hand in greeting. "Jason Stackhouse, ma'am. Bon Temps, Louisiana police force."

"We seem to have a lot of cops here. We just thought we'd all get together and talk about forming some kind of organized unit."

She glanced down at his hand, then shook it firmly.

"Detective Kate Beckett, NYPD."

"Sounds like a good idea to me, Detective," he says after returning her shake.

"Is that what you'd prefer to be called? Detective?" If he's going to fit in here he wants to know the correct protocol. Not everyone has as relaxed standards as Sheriff Bellefleur.

The respectful question and earnest face on the guy relaxed Kate a bit, and she managed a smile.

"Beckett's fine. Or Kate. What would you like to be called?"

"I reckon I'll call you Beckett," Jason slowly replied, as if coming to a tough decision. "Sounds more professional that way."

"Just Jason's fine by me. My sister's around here too and it might get confusing."

"Yeah. Sookie Stackhouse. She's not a cop or anything, but she's here in the city too. Do you know her?"

Spencer gazed up at the man who had entered the meeting. He had never seen this guy before, and he couldn't help but notice the sprinkles that were falling carelessly onto the library floor.

"We don't exactly have anyone to run down yet..."

Jason is not one to be deterred. "Well we can still do something, right? Do people drive fast around here? How about traffic patrol?"

He takes another bite and a few more of the sprinkles fall. Good thing he didn't bring up littering.

Spencer isn't one who is OCD about cleanliness particularly, but he's getting a little annoyed at how many sprinkles are ending up on the floor. Not that he'd say anything about it.

"The only cars I've seen so far belong to the Extras and they never speed or do anything that could be considered breaking a law..."

Spencer looked Jason up and down. He didn't seem like a cop at all.

"I don't think we've met..."

"Well one o'those vehicles belongs to me. I've got a truck." Jason is obviously pretty proud.

He quickly polishes off the last of his doughnuts and wipes his hands on his jeans before offering a handshake. "Jason Stackhouse."

Spencer held his hand up in a sort of wave as a greeting. It was nothing personal against Jason; he didn't shake hands with anybody he didn't know well. Usually his greetings with other people came in the form of Hotch going around the circle and introducing the whole team. In those instances, he was prepared to raise his hand before one was even offered to him, as to reduce the awkwardness of the social situation.

"Dr. Spencer Reid.... are you an officer?"

Jason doesn't know Spencer's reasoning and from his point of view the refusal to return a polite handshake looks quite rude.

"Damn right I'm an officer," he says, visibly appraising Spencer and wondering what he did to deserve this reaction. "What're you a doctor of?"
