The flyers have been up since the beginning of the glitch back in time: SOCK HOP! 5PM ON THE 19TH AT THE STROLL DANCE HALL! Or, some variation thereof

Ambrose was certain he was entirely too old for this display of joie de vivre. Really, a man in his forties, a respected member of the community (at least he hoped he was respected) had no business hanging around a dance hall on a Friday night. There was work to be done, papers to grade, experiments to be tested, lessons to plan...
But there was a chance the band would play "Chantilly Lace," and maybe he'd get the opportunity to show a certain pie-delivering waitress that he actually did know what fun was.
For the time being he'd play the wallflower, sipping his punch (which may have been enhanced by the contents of a hip flask) and keeping an unofficial eye on his students.

[Sadly Mr. Langwe was a keen observer so Angela's efforts were for naught. On the other hand he was a magnanimous sort and so simply raised his eyebrows at her evasive maneuvers.

[You're intensely lucky that Ambrose is easily bamboozled by teenagers, Angie.]
Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. Temperance was also ill recently, so there must be something going around. [Then, because there is a silver lining to everything:] I'm glad to see you're feeling better now, of course, and look forward to receiving your make-up work on Monday.

Well, you could turn it in Wednesday if you like. There'd be a point deduction for tardiness then, of course, but...yes, I'd still accept it on Wednesday.
[This is the worst sock hop in the history of the universe, sorry.]

Oh, Glitch. Glitch, Glitch, Glitch. It's unfortunate that this makes you look even slightly similar to Floop, even if it's just by the simple merit of 'no zipper.' However, he is also an intelligent person and in some position of authority, which means out and out demonstrations of PHBBT-ing isn't allowed.
"Class is over," from the tiny girl who managed to get behind you, Glitch Mr. Langwe, as if you are not already aware by the simple fact that this is not school.

Accusations of similarity to Floop will be met with horror, River. As it is he appreciates the non-PHBBT approach, even if it does invoke a baffled glance in response.
"Yes," Ambrose replied with a small degree of hesitation. "Yes, Miss Tam, it's the weekend. Which I'm given to understand is a time allotted to unburden oneself of academic concerns."

Here have a somewhat baffled look in response. "Will I..."
No, sly grinning aside there was no way River had just asked him to dance. Then again given her general unconventionality (and occasional complete incomprehensability) there was a chance she had, in which case Ambrose was planning to flail about impropriety.
"Unlikely. It's not exactly my area of expertise," he lied hedged, opting to go for a literal intepretation of the query.

"Liar," said breezily over her shoulder as she turns to look at something on the other side of the room. It's hard to tell if that something is a valid something, but it's being considered nonetheless.

And, sure enough, his toes were tapping to the band's rhythm. Ambrose shot River a look which bordered on accusatory, then heaved a sigh.
"Be that as it may, I am not...inclined to dance at the moment." Give it one more drink, or drag him bodily onto the floor. Those are pretty much the only options.
She wasn't late, as such, but DG was one of the last people to arrive at the dance. She'd been given the evening off and she'd rushed home to change as soon as the afternoon shift had drawn to a close, but, somehow, she'd still managed to run out of time.
Although she knew why she'd spent so long selecting an outfit and checking her hair in the mirror, DG was furious with herself for acting so ... so ridiculously. In attempt to make up for her lapse, she'd stubbornly insisted on riding her motorbike to the dance hall. When she finally wandered inside, she was almost too busy smoothing out her skirt to notice Ambrose.
Almost.
Feeling suddenly rather glad that she'd put the effort, she sauntered over to say a nonchalant 'hello'.
A bit unexpectedly, DG had Ambrose's full attention from the moment she walked into the room. That was when he finally realized he'd made the right choice in coming that night to follow his heart rather than listen to his brain. So what if he wasn't getting any younger if being with her made him feel as if he were?
He smiled, straightened his tie, and nodded at her greeting.
"I'm occasionally unpredictable," he said, equally nonchalant. "I hope that's all right with you."
"It's great," she said, more sincerely than she'd intended. To cover up the mistake - or what DG considered to be a mistake, at least - she contined a little more flippantly. "Why don't you surprise me even more by asking me to dance?"

"Time isn't the question. It's irrelevant," said with another look and followed by a pause.
"Will you teach dance?"
Ignore the sly grin there, sir.
