A year ago, DG had been pulled away from her quest - to save her sister, save the O.Z and discover who she really was - and thrown into world of Taxon. A whole year. In that time, she'd made (and lost) good friends, experienced things - wonderful things and terrible things - that would have seemed impossible during her old life in Kansas and, eventually, returned briefly to the O.Z to finish the job she'd started.
She wasn't sure if today was a cause for celebration or for commiseration, but she certainly smiled when she peered through the door of the kitchen and caught sight of Glitch.
Glitch grinned back, crow's feet crinkling the corners of his eyes as he finished lighting a few candles. A touch of class, nothing ostentatious, just him being his usual set-in-his-ways self.
"Thanks," he replied and inclined his head. "Hopefully it'll taste good too. Cooking's a little like chemistry, right?"
"I hope it's less experimental," said DG with a teasing smile, admiring the candles. (She wondered, vaguely, if she should have dressed up a little more.) She was used to serving food rather than cooking it, but she still had a good idea of how things were supposed to go.
"Nah, tried and true recipes from the queen's chef's cookbook." At least Glitch assumed that's what the dusty tome was.
He settled at the table, tugged back the cuffs of his charcoal gray jacket, and gestured for her to sit. "There's water and cider and...whatever else you want in the chiller."
