Charley's face is nothing but sympathy.

"Oh, I am sorry, but I rather think we're all stuck here. Some sort of alien zoo..."

"It's better than an alien museum," noted Martha, remembering the Museum of the Last Ones and the Doctor's temporary imprisonment there. It wasn't the sort of thing that was easy to forget. At least the exhibits in zoos were allowed to move around a bit.

(And, if they could move around, potentially escape.)

"I suppose you don't know where we are or why we're here either?"

"I'm not sure it's much. Zoo or museum, we're all exhibits in a cage..."

A small frown at this before she continues.

"I'm rather a new arrival myself, but the place is called Taxon. It's certainly Earth-like... to make us feel at home, I suppose. But who knows where we really are. And whoever's keeping us here doesn't seem terribly interested in making themselves known, just in keeping us here."

"But the exhibits in zoos are still alive," she pointed out, glancing around the room. It was a strange sort of cage, but she was eager to get out of it and get back to her life.

"You're from Earth?" And she wasn't unsettled by the idea of life on other planets, either. She'd accepted that Taxon - if that was where they really were - could be anywhere in the universe.

"And I shall hope they wish to keep us that way."

So far so good, but what can you say about aliens with uncertain intentions?

"From Earth," she smiles, just a bit, at the thought of home, "though it's been a long time since I've been home."

A brief pause.

"Oh, I am sorry -- I do tend to just assume that people who look human are from Earth. I don't mean to have offended. I'm sure there's something here that's home-like for everyone..."

"No, it's fine," said Martha, reassuring Charley as quickly as she could. "I am from Earth. I'm Martha. Martha Jones."

During her travels with the Doctor, there hadn't been time for Martha to miss her home planet. They'd rushed from adventure to adventure and, as much as she loved her family, homesickness had been the last thing on her mind. She noted the slight smile and wondered, once again, how much the other woman knew about travel between different planets.

"So you weren't on Earth when you arrived in here?"

"Charley Pollard. I'd offer to shake your hand, but... well."

She offers a sheepish smile. She would have been at the Sanctuary herself, but she's been out exploring... or wandering aimlessly. It all depended on one's point of view.

"I'd been off... well, it's an awfully long story, so I'll just abbreviate it to 'traveling,' for now. There are some amazing things out there."

"It's all right." At the moment, Martha was more interested in information than pleasantries. If she was going to form a plan and get home, then she needed to know about where they were and who had brought them to the city in the first place.

"I know," said Martha, and the tone of her voice made it clear that she really did. It was beautiful and wonderful and terrifying all at once. She refused to let herself miss what she'd given up when she left the TARDIS.

"Oh! A fellow traveler, then?"

Charley offers a bright grin before moving back to more serious topics.

"I'm afraid that's really all I really know. You ought to talk to the Doctor -- he always likes to pretend he knows everything, but I suspect he really does know as much about this place as anyone."

"I used to be."

She hadn't turned her back on the stars. She'd simply started to focus on Earth and her family and the good she could do at home.

"The Doctor? You travel with the Doctor?"

If she hadn't been so surprised, Martha probably would have laughed at that. Another one of the Doctor's 'stray dogs'. It looked like their captors had decided to start up a collection.

"Is he here?"
