She's got to do it. If she's not worth anything else, this can make up for it all, right? That genetiwhatsit thing, it would kill all of the Daleks, yes, but everyone else would be okay. It would be a justified sacrifice, wouldn't it? Self-defense, to help all those frightened people. All she can think about are little babies, and the children who ( Read more... )

He doesn't answer the machine when he hears Donna's voice. He just stares at it, stares at the woman who recognizes him and knows who she is. The woman he killed and is still, in so many ways, grieving for.

And she's alive. Alive and right there.

He curls up in the corner of the room designated as his and just watches her interact with other people. She's right there. After a while, he presses his knees against his eyes until he sees sparks.

It's not fair. It's not fair for Taxon to give him these people he cares about when he knows he has to leave them. And Donna has to die, and Rose has to go off with the man who is the Doctor but isn't, and Fitz has to---

He doesn't reply to Donna's message, but he continues to watch.

[ooc: Continued from above]

Rose leads Donna through the streets of Taxon to the little house she's been sharing with the Doctor. Yes that is a settee sitting outside on the sidewalk. She unlocks the house with a press of her finger to the lock and steps inside, tugging Donna after her.

"Doctor? Hello?"

She pokes her head in the kitchen and the living room then heads up the stairs where the two bedrooms are.

The Doctor stares at his door. He can hear Rose enter, but he's locked the door. He wants to be alone right now. Alone with his pain.

Donna follows behind, a meek moment of very few of their kind. Her anxiety is worsened by the fact that only moments ago she was facing the end of existence entirely.

Now, she wasn't sure she wouldn't rather go back to that.

Yes because Rose is so good at letting the Doctor deal with his pain alone. She pokes her head into her room and unsurprisingly doesn't find the Doctor there. That takes her to his room. She twists the knob, finds it locked and then knocks the door.

"Doctor? Got a surprise for you."

He doesn't move. He stares at the door and remains perfectly still and perfectly silent.

Maybe she'll just go away.

Donna waits just a moment before shoving in with Rose and banging on the door herself. "Oi, Sunshine! Guess who's here?"

She continues banging. The longer he waits, the more volatile she's likely to be if he finally opens the door. "I don't need a screwdriver to pick a lock, you know. You don't come out, we'll be coming in!"

And now she's digging in her hair for a bobby pin.

On the other side of the door, there's a scuffling, scrambling noise, and the sound of a chair moving.

Yes, the Doctor has just moved a chair under the door handle.

Also, for those who know what the squeaky noise of a window opening sounds like, they might also hear that.

"What the bloody..." Rose is staring at the door. She tries the knob then leans in to listen. "Doctor? Are you alright in there?" She's frustrated and a little worried. She looks to Donna and shrugs a bit. She doesn't understand this behavior.

She knows those noises because unfortunately, Donna has been in this position before. More than once. "He's running." She looks at Rose, as if she were saying is he serious?

She purses her lips and huffs before stalking off back toward the entrance and out. "C'mon, Rose. We're gonna do a little Doctor wrangling!"

And the Doctor shimmies down the side of the house and lands, rather ungracefully, on the ground. Yeah, not his best moment ever, but at least he's moving.

Donna's in the house, which means he can't stay there. He weighs his options and bolts towards Camelot, nearly running into Rose and Donna as he does so.

"Doctor!" Rose yells, taking a couple of quick steps back and reaching out to grab onto him to keep from falling.

"What are you--why are you running?"

Ever the terrible runner, Donna is surprised (re: relieved) to practically slam into the Doctor and rather than grabbing on, she begins to swat at him. Chasing him down had been her intent, and now that she has him in front of her Donna isn't sure what to do.

"What the hell are you doing?" She hollers. "It's me! It's Donna! You have to remember me. You're Mr. Big Brains, what the hell are you running away for?" And a few more swats for good measure.

"Ow! Ow! Stop that!" he shouts, rubbing the side of his arm. He hasn't seen Donna in ages. Longer than he wants to think about. He's always run away, he's always had to. But something's wrong.

"Remember. You remember," he says, staring slack-jawed at her. She remembers, but she isn't dead, which means---

He should be ecstatic, but he just looks incredibly sad. Another person he's going to lose the moment he leaves.

Rose looks at Donna very confused. As if she's got the answers to this then looks back to the Doctor. "She--yeah. Doctor, are you--" she doesn't want to ask if he's losing his memory. "Remember Dickens?"

It's a little sort of secret way to ask if his memory is slipping right now. "Ought to get you inside. Or we can sit on the settee outside for a bit."

Rose's look is returned in kind and then Donna turns to scowl at the Doctor, allowing some of the worry to slip in. "Course I remember! I remember almost getting burned up in the TARDIS, I remember you just-- just growing another one! I remember traipsing out of the TARDIS, ready to save you and ending up here!"

She's huffing a bit after her outburst, and she hits him in the shoulder again, losing steam. "How the hell d'you think I could forget, Doctor? I'll always remember, I can't ever forget."
