[Location - Sunnydale High Library]

Tara has been spending more and more time in the Sunnydale library.  For one thing, Giles is there, and she's always glad to see him.  And, of course, the collection on magic is even more impressive than she'd guessed it had been.  She's doing research for herself, and for Piper and DG as well ( Read more... )

Ruby saunters in, having stumbled on the library while exploring. She's a modern girl, all cell phones and iPods, sure. But there's something to be said about the comfort of text printed on paper, even to a murdering bitch of a demon. Now's not the time for that face, however and she puts on what she intends to be a nice smile when she spots Tara.

"Looks like I hit Taxon's hotspot, huh? There isn't a cover charge, I hope."

She looks up, and smiles back just a little. Shyly, she says, "Anyone can come in. I-I mean, it's not mine, but I'm sure Mr. Giles doesn't mind."

"Mr. Giles, huh? Librarian extraordinaire?" She makes her way up one of the little staircases to peruse the stacks. Her voice raises as she disappears behind one of them. "Nice selection! Good to see it's not your typical library."

"Not quite, no. Are you looking for anything particular?"

"Not so much as interested in knowing what I might be able to get my hands on if I need." She comes back out with a thick book, flipping lightly through the pages before coming to sit a few chairs away from Tara. "Sounds like you know your way around it."

"A little," she confesses. "Though not before Taxon."

"Hmm, so it's from your world, then. I guess that means you're used to bumps in the night?" She continues skimming over a few pages as she talks.

"As much as anyone, I guess. I mean, the aliens are new."

"New and less than shiny. Have you been here long enough to get some kinda scoop on them at all?"

Tara shakes her head. "Only about a month. You?"

"Almost," Ruby smirks a little. "Definitely not long enough to keep from getting lost without having look at this tablet thing."

"Yeah." Tara glances down at her tablet. "They're sort of indispensable, at least for now. But it makes me nervous that they can turn themselves on."

"Yeah I'm really not loving that. They're indestructible too." There's a pause before she elaborates, chuckling. "Not that my living room wall isn't. This thing really leaves some damage behind."

"Oh." Tara pauses, then asks, "Did the wall heal itself, like places after the bombs hit?"

She shrugs and shakes her head. "No, but that's probably 'cause the place was a dump when I found it."

Ruby stops flipping pages to rest her head on her hand and regard Tara a little more openly. "So, you got family or friends here? I assume cause of the library not being yours even though you're familiar with it."

"Oh. Um. Yes - it's Mr. Giles' library. I knew him from home, though not the library. It was gone." Tara's torn between finding Ruby interesting and slightly unnerving, so she's attempting to remain at ease. Then again, even if she's come out of her shell the past couple years, small talk isn't generally something she finds easy. "But I'm lucky; I've got several friends from home here."
