Today, Sheppard was dressed in a casual winter wardrobe. It just felt like one of those days that should be taken off as opposed to walking around in uniform. He threw on clothes that he actually hadn't worn since he had been on Earth, and hit the streets. Sheppard knew exactly where he was going to be going today: Stargate Command ( Read more... )

That depended on one's definition.

Cam blinked over at the tablet, before picking it up. "Which one are you talking to? The city or the people?"

"Mitchell. Talking to the city doesn't mean you'll get a response back. Now, talking to the people, on the other hand..." Sheppard trailed off. Not even Atlantis talked back. If a city started talking back, he was going to check himself into a mental institute.

"My ID works with the entrance to Cheyenne, right?"

"As far as you know, Sheppard. If it can make people sing, it might have speakers somewhere." His own personal opinion remained that someone was controlling all of this, not...the city controlling itself. Maybe that person could be cajoled into talking.

Cam nodded. "Course it does, Sheppard."

"Now I'm going to be paranoid to sleep tonight. Thanks." He turned the tablet away from him, showing the mountain in front of him.

"You spend too much time locked up by yourself. I'm declaring tonight a Rescue Man Night. Beer, popcorn, and movies that would make women hate us for watching."

Well, at least he knew where the Colonel was now.

"Y'know--this is not a rejection of the beer, popcorn, and movies--but I wouldn't call it by myself. The natives aren't so bad at conversation if you give 'em a chance."

An honest shrug. "People from home, Mitchell. Come on. The Extras are spooky."

He quirked a wry smile. "So I keep hearing." He pointed at the tablet. "Where will this rescue thing go down?"

"I'm right outside. So, now."

Impulsive. No surprise, really.

...And, honestly, he had nothing to do today. Why not go along with the rescue? "You coming down here, then?"

"Yup. Now that I know the pass still works..." Sheppard slid the card through and went in through the open door. It took a second to regain the bearings of the SGC, but hell, it was pretty hard to actually forget the place.

Cam still wondered what would have made Sheppard doubt that it would. Even if Atlantians had sketchy access to the mountain normally--which was entirely untrue--here in Taxon, minor quibbles about whether they used blue or green wormholes to go exploring back home needed to be set aside.

"Down on level 27."

"Be there in a few."

Sheppard never really knew anymore. Taxon was so damn, well, glitchy that he never knew. Uhura had gone to the metaphoric 'dark side', so who the hell knew if any of the Stargate Command members would? It was a bit of a long shot. Sheppard just wasn't going to take many chances.

He stepped out of the elevator and started roaming around Level 27. The Extras in the halls made him edgy. He didn't like the idea of drone alien city inhabitants near the Stargate. Even if it was inactive.

He'd shooed the extras out a few times, when he hadn't felt comfortable about unqualified technicians tinkering about with the computers, but he'd found the Gateroom--and thus the mountain--all the more eery and uncomfortable without them there.

That said, a familiar face in the hallway still stood out in stark contrast to the faceless others. He gave a small wave, before meandering toward the Colonel. "Sheppard."

He turned and nodded, giving a wave. "Mitchell." Then he held up the box of cans. Typical American beer, what else could a person ask for? Well, a lot, but Sheppard didn't trust Taxon that much.

"At least the SGC hasn't changed a damn bit. Always a plus." He said with a smile, looking around. It made him miss Atlantis more than he already did. Not that he'd admit it.

Cam chose not to worry about where the beer came from, Taxon-wise. As long as he didn't see the hatching, or be directly informed, he could nicely just push that out of his mind.

Cam dug his hands into his pockets, and nodded, glancing around the place a moment. "Yeah. Y'know, except for the Gate not working, but...little blessings. Welcome back to Stargate Command, by the way."
