If anyone were watching Uhura step onto the bridge of the Enterprise, they wouldn't have assumed that anything was amiss. And nothing was, until the doors slid shut behind her and she took a look around

"Captain, thank God," Uhura replied, turning to the familiar voice. Not that she was typically thrilled to see the captain, but she'd settle for anything resembling normalcy at this point.
She stopped in her tracks, giving him a once-over. He wasn't in his regulation uniform, either.

"What memories?" she asked, eyes narrowing further at him. "No, I'm wondering what the hell you're doing in a jacket when you're supposed to be on duty."
She looked down at herself, remembering, and exhaled in a frustrated sigh. "Then again, I suppose I'm the last person who should be lecturing you on the dress code."

[ okay, so she hasn't talked to Uhura in what felt like forever - so when the visual popped in, Cordelia decided to talk to her. Except with a humongous hangover, she's not exactly looking her best. ]

McCoy had been in Sickbay researching that damned DNA again when Uhura strode past and vented her disgust on the bridge for all of Taxon to witness. Oblivious to her change in demeanour due to ignoring his tablet tablet, he followed her path and punched in the code for the Enterprise bridge to find Jim and instead was surprised to see Uhura there, her face contorted in displeasure over something as she stared at the main viewscreen.
With a sigh, he asked: "What did Jim do this time?"

"Even if he wanted to, I doubt the Captain's capability to pull this sort of thing off," Uhura replied, pointing to the viewscreen before turning to him.
Her eyes widened a bit when she saw him. "So they've gotten to you, too."

McCoy raised an eyebrow at the noticeable shock on her face and the exclamation that 'they had gotten to him too'. His earlier suspicion that Jim had done something to incur Uhura's wrath was shot down; they seemed to get along better than they did at the Academy these days, anyway.
Spock did not make a habit of using her first name in professional circumstances, and, even if they had been entirely alone, he would not have used it now. Her voice was the same, but the intonation was entirely unfamiliar. It was possible that Taxon had kidnapped a version of Uhura from a parallel universe. It was equally possible that the Uhura from his own universe had been subjected to a 'glitch'. Regardless of the circumstances, he would abandon his research in the library of the Sanctuary and investigate.
Even as he addressed her via the tablet, Spock was on his feet and making his voice - his pace steady but notedly swift - towards the Enterprise.
She recognized that voice. Knew it well. Uhura gripped the tablet and brought it closer to her face, trying to get a good look at the transmission. Had they gotten to him, too?
She recognised him. That would be beneficial, though her tone was once more both familiar and unfamiliar. He would have to proceed with care. He could not imagine a universe where Nyota was anything other than strong - and her tone suggested that that, at least, had not changed - but he could, unfortunately, imagine a universe where their relationship had not been cultivated. (Such insecurities were illogical and, more often than not, ignored. That did not mean that they were not present.)
"You appear to be unfamiliar with the bridge. What is the registration number of the vessel you are currently serving on?"
"I.S.S. 1701," she answered, though she was unsure of why she had to - he knew it as well as she did. In the universe she was from, a relationship had been cultivated between them, but it was much different if her world. They had to keep it hidden even now, because if Kirk caught onto it before the timing was right, their plan would fall apart and they'd both get the agony booth at best, thrown off the ship at worst.
Something caught her attention, and she wondered why it had taken her so long to notice it - the difference was pretty obvious.

What do you mean? Did the aliens do something to it?
