Those that either visited the Sanctuary For All, or lived there, had probably noticed that Helen was not in the infirmary that day. The bed she was in had been neatly made and put back into order as it should of been. Instead, with a bandage across her head from the injury she suffered, Helen had moved several boxes out of the storage rooms up into ( Read more... )

Ashley had been on her way to see her mom when she heard the music. She hadn't expected her to still be in the infirmary so when she heard the music coming from the direction of her office it made her smile; a nasty knock to the head wouldn't stop her, it never had before. Ashley stood in the doorway, watching for a moment and remembered something similar from the previous year, and years before that. Having a home as big as the Sanctuary allowed Helen to hoard everything from her previous years, and with the care that she took everything was still rather useful.

"You know, you should go with some of the older decorations." This made her smile, though she'd always been a fan of Christmas. Not really the cold, although as a child she'd loved playing in the snow, but just Christmas in general. Family, stories and just basic enjoyment; you couldn't get that much better than it.

"And maybe even set up another Getaway?"

"Ashley, it is much too cold to go and put up a Hindi getaway on the roof." She rolled her eyes playfully. Listening to her daughter's suggestion, she moved towards the boxes that were closest to the desk. "Older by how much? I have some dating back to the late 19th century."

"Who said anything about the roof?" They had plenty of rooms and space here, and if it was just them they wouldn't need to set up a large getaway either. "It'd be nice though."

Ashley thought for a moment about the decorations. By 'old' she hadn't meant the 19th century but she should have expected that too. "Early 20th?" In the middle, sort of.

Helen followed her glance. "Roaring Twenties. Never thought it was your taste." She motioned for Ashley to follow, taking her to a box that was tucked to the side. The twelfth box. "This one is yours. The tree this year is going to have ornaments that you all get to handpick from the collection I have. I thought you'd like to chose from your own."

"Not really, but its yours. Plus it's different." And since this place was different it sort of fit. Ashley gave a smile at the ornament box. She hadn't seen a lot of these in a while, and picking her own? She would no doubt spend a little too much time trying to find the best. Or her favourites. Or trying not to pick them all.

"Perfect. When's the tree going up?"

"As soon as we find a suitable one." Helen looked at her. "I had originally thought about asking you, Henry, and Gabriel to find it..." She trailed off for a moment and frowned. Helen hadn't seen Gabriel since he was in the guise of Mr. Petrelli. She sighed and looked back at her daughter. "Would you mind it if it was just you and Henry?"

She still had hardly any information on what had happened. If things were sorted out soon, maybe she could find something else for Gabriel to do.

"You trust us to pick it?" And not spend the day having 'siblingly' quibbles and not getting a lot done.

She quirked her head to the side. "Unless you plan on making grandpuppies instead of finding me a tree."

Helen of course knew they were hardly like that. But, it was still rather fun to tease them.

... That was just not funny. Not one bit and it never had been.

"I think I'm just going to go pick my ornaments."

Helen laughed, nudging her daughter before turning back to the other boxes. She opened one of them, pulling out an ornament from the Forties. Not only just the Forties, but from London. During the Second Great War. What memories it brought back.

"Ashley." Helen said a moment later, her voice much softer. "I believe Suresh and I are fairly close to creating a genetic therapy for you."

She'd been about ready to leave with her box, to go to her room to sort out her ornaments in peace when she was stopped. Trial one hadn't worked, though if it had it might have been a little too easy. This time with Suresh working it sounded a little more hopeful.

"Better than before?"

She nodded. "Suresh is from Claire's home. He understands her blood and has made a cure for something else from it. If we can't do it with Claire's blood, we might be able to with Mr. Monroe's... he has the same ability, and as you know is much older. I'd hate to ask such a thing from him, but..."

Mr. Monroe already knew about what was happening. Helen had told him before she even met Suresh.

"I suppose time will tell. All we can keep doing is trying..." Helen turned back to her. "Unless, you'd rather stop trying."

Stop trying? That wasn't something that she'd considered. Trials might not work but they'd find something. If you can do something then you can always undo it.

"Just keep it coming." Plus, being a vampire gave her extended life. She had until her mom was ready to give up, or died.

That made her smile.

"Alright."

Ashley gave a smile before placing her box down and stepping around the others to hug her mom.

Certainly unexpected and uncharacteristic, though Helen hugged her back just as tight.
