VIII. [ location: sanctuary for all (the shoe) ] i'm walking wounded, and i'd say it to your face.

The Shoe was where the worst of the worst were kept. At least, that was what Peter remembered from the flood of memories from Dr. Magnus. The place in the Sanctuary where they kept the Abnormals that could never be allowed to intergrad with others were kept. The ones that they could hardly let roam free in fear of hurting others. It was the first ( Read more... )

No matter how much Ashley had wanted to go after Peter, to know what the hell had happened and why he'd attacked her mom she hadn't wanted to leave. There might have been other people that could have stayed with her but that wasn't the point, so instead of going after Peter - and likely doing something nasty back - she'd stayed in the Sanctuary, letting her mom heal a little before finally leaving her alone ( ... )

Peter had gone to sitting, once again, in the cell. His eyes were on the wall beside him as he just... stopped thinking. There was nothing left to think about. The Haitian Pills canceled out all of the abilities he had in his head. It cave him a nice peace and quiet. Thankfully there was the hum of some sort of machines to make him from going completely nuts. He refused to talk on the tablets to anyone.

He was aware that someone was watching him. Peter just didn't bother to look over at whoever it was. Max broke his heart enough. He didn't want to turn and see Nathan or Claire there.

"Plan on ignoring me? Cause I can do this all day." Which was true if you didn't include having to sleep at some point, and probably needing a fresh set of clothes too.

"It'd be easier, Ash." He admitted and swallowed the lump in his throat.

Facing Magnus would be hard enough, but having to face her only daughter was even worse. The daughter that almost lost her mother because he couldn't control an ability. Because, he was too weak to control it. He really was pathetic.

"Really? Cause maybe you want to hide away but that doesn't cut it." And Ashley wasn't leaving until she got an answer.

Peter glanced up at her. He wasn't planning on giving an answer. Not when the answer was fairly obvious if anyone paid attention to what he was saying.

"Going to even ask how she is?" Uncaring had never been a word Ashley thought that she'd ever describe Peter as, but it could be close.

"Lucky." Peter looked back at the wall. "Only a few people have survived it. Mohinder already told me."

"You could make it look like you cared." Ask, look guilty... anything would work now.

If she couldn't tell the pain in his eyes despite his hard expressions, then Ashley was the one that was missing it. Why else would he have Mohinder lock him up in the Shoe? Peter was empathic, and cutting himself off visually, physically, and socially was the most punishment he could throw on himself. He was sure someone would be complaining that he was doing it to himself. Except, he knew he deserved it.

"Peter!" This was insane. How long did he plan on doing this? It wasn't like sitting in the Shoe and ignoring what had happened would make it go away, and it wasn't very smart either.

It wouldn't make it go away, no. But, it was a safe place for him and everyone else until the abilities left. If they were glitched. If they weren't, then they'd have to find something else.

"I'd offer you revenge, Ash," he stead instead. "except that I'd come back. Not sure that'd make things worse or better by this point."

It might have been safe but her mom had worked with Gabriel on his abilities, she could do the same to Peter. Once she was well enough.

"I wouldn't want to." It might have been her top thought other than patching her mom up but it wasn't her style, not on a friend. She wouldn't shoot him and she wouldn't go vampire on him either. "Plus, it'd make it worse."

His hand went up and he pulled his hair back from his face. Gabriel's reasons for his ability going nuts were completely different. Peter didn't think Magnus could help him with this grief for what had happened back home. Not that Ashley knew any of what had happened. Peter hadn't told anyone. Not even Max.

"I wonder if that's really possible."

"You'll have to trust me." Could he still do that? Or rather, could she trust him? It might be shaky but if it wasn't his fault then things would get better.

Peter's gaze remained on the wall in front of him.

"That's the reason I tried to be Sylar's friend. His ability makes people do that."
