It’s a quiet afternoon in Levi’s mansion; the others are out hunting, so he and Shane had decided to take advantage of the silence, lazing around on the couch contentedly. They’re mostly on-and-off sleeping, Levi laying flat out on his stomach and Shane lying pretty much on top of him, curled up ( Read more... )

"They won't answer, you know."

John had not grown any more used to being interrupted by the little device that he had been carrying since his arrival into Taxon. However, he understood that it was the only way to communicate for some, and that new arrivals had no way of knowing that they were broadcasting to the whole world. Because of this, he pushed himself to be patient.

"I assume you have just arrived? Welcome to Taxon." Sarcasm lingered in his tone.

"What?"

Levi turns, focusing on the tablet on the pedestal, staring it down. The sound was coming from there, and Levi, no stranger to love technology, stalked over angrily to pick up the phone like object, examining it.

"Taxon? I've never heard of a Taxon. The founder must have had a terrible taste in names. And in decorating."

Cue disgusted face here.

"I haven't gotten the impression that any of us had heard of it prior to our arrival." He paused, a small smile turning the corners of his mouth upward, "If I run across any of the designers, I'll be sure to let them know." He coughed to clear his throat. "The city is run by unseen figures. Thus far, I have not known anyone to escape, though I gave it quite the good try when I first arrived." He grimaced, still irked that his teleportation was limited to the confines of Taxon's cave-like encasing.

"You're welcome to try, but if you'd rather become accustomed to your spacious prison, there should be a door just behind you."

"Fantastic," Levi replied flatly, looking vaguely annoyed. Giving the room another once over, Levi sighs and heads to the door that the voice had directed him to, feeling rather ridiculous. So not fabulous, this. And he wants to know where Shane went.

But, if he's going to get any of that information, he's going to have to be nice. And well, there's no use in taking his anger out on other people he's never even met. Even though he definitely would not complain if he had to.

"May I ask who I am speaking to?"

"Ah, forgive me." John said waving a hand to dismiss the rude behavior he had not meant to exhibit, "I am John, John Druitt. And you are?" He understood the frustration and didn't seem put off by it in the slightest. He had gone through many of the same emotions during his time in this forsaken city.

"It's quite alright." Levi would bow if he were face to face. For now, he gives the other man an acknowledging nod. "Levi Blakely. It's a pleasure, despite the circumstances."

Oh, hello. The Sanctuary is kind of big, and Levi is going to stare for a minute, getting accustomed to his surroundings. It smells odd, like the smell of nine different types of cleaners mixed all into one scent. Levi wrinkles his nose, put off by the smell, and wanders off to examine the features.

"So, John Druitt. How long am I to be trapped here? Do you have any sort of idea?"

It wasn't a name he would consider normal, but John had given up all idea of normal after his time in Taxon. He could see the scenery change as Levi walked through the Sanctuary. John knew that from there, it was just a matter of exploring to whatever extent you felt necessary.

"Thus far, I have witnessed no time frame to our imprisonment. There are some who are working on various means of exit, but all attempts have proved futile from the information I have been given." He paused, "I am sorry I am not of more help. I have not been here very long myself."

It's not exactly a normal name, no, not for modern times. Levi was born in 1901, so it stands to say that his name is rather outdated. He's growing bored of the Sanctuary, but by what he can see outside, it's daylight. So, y'know. He's not going anywhere.

With a sigh, Levi flops into one of the chairs, and holds up the tablet, flicking through it. When he reaches the functions part, he debates for a moment, and then chooses the visual portion. Satisfied, he answers John.

"Hm. I suppose it doesn't matter much. Here is as good as any place," Levi frowns slightly. "You... well, this would be a long-shot, but you haven't happened to run across anyone by the name of Shane Hayes, have you?"

And John had passed 150 years some time ago when he wasn't paying attention. It had been some time since he had known anyone to come from any time other than modern, so it was never his first guess that the person he was interacting with belonged to a different time.

The screen changed, which was jarring for him, but John did his best not to show the surprise. This one was quick and more able on the device than he might ever hope to be.

"The name is not familiar. However, I am not exactly the most social of creatures. I take it this Shane Hayes is a friend of yours?" John had run across his ex lover and daughter nearly immediately when he entered Taxon. The concept was not foreign.

Levi wouldn't even think of it, either. He's not used to meeting many people older than he is, except for the occasional vampire. Even those are rare.

"He's a friend of mine, yes. Someone very close to me," Levi says, closing his eyes with another small sigh. He probably shouldn't be giving this information out so freely, but he doesn't care right now. "If you haven't heard of him, it's likely he's not here. He's a very outspoken sort of person."

It almost looks like Levi's wilting slightly as he says that.

John wished he could help more than he had already tried.

"I would not be so quick to give up hope. As I said, I do not make myself available to many people, especially recently." He didn't exactly feel like going into that right now.

Levi does appreciate it. John is the first (and only-- Ethan doesn't count) person to be at least somewhat kind to him. And Levi is pleasantly surprised about that, considering his less than alive status.

"Oh?" Levi says, glancing at the tablet. He's silent for a moment, and then he continues. He won't push that. "Well... I must thank you for the help that you have given, at the very least. If you need a favor, I'd be quite willing to help however I can."

As long as he doesn't have to go outside. And as long as he doesn't die of hunger.

"It has been a pleasure, Levi. Good luck in all of your travels, and I hope you can locate your friend. If you are in need of anything, you may call on me. I will do my best to aid you in any way possible." John gave a deep nod of his head before cutting off his visual feed. There was no need for awkward lingerings of dying conversation. John had never seen the point.

"Thank you," Levi replies, and then watches the visual click off, amused. Well, then. John was somebody he definitely liked.

Now, off to figure out what to do next...
