In fact, he knew a lot more than a lot of people ever expected. He couldn't certainly tell, even from an audio only feed, that Gwen wasn't in a particularly good state.
"Gwen?" he said, putting down a screwdriver to reach for the device, "What happened?"
Although a lot of things could go wrong in the Black, and he could have named a few of them, he was less sure about the things that could cause serious injuries in Taxon.

"I don't... exactly remember. Are we out? Are we still 'n Taxon?"

With a lot of effort, he managed to resist the temptation to ask if she was all right. The answer was fairly obvious.
"We're still in Taxon," he said, before adding: "I'm not sure where in Taxon you are, though." Apart from an infirmary, which was a bit too general to be of any use. It looked more like a hospital than the infirmaries he'd seen on board ships.

Even though he hardly knew the woman named Magnus, he asked if they could move Gwen MacKenzie there if things got tough. They did for a bit, and she agreed. Of course she came in and checked every now and again, but generally left the two of them alone. Sheppard was just waiting for that pointy-eared doctor to show up again.
