"It's November... meaning Thanksgiving. Turkey, stuffing, pie, and football." Sheppard addressed the tablet once he had turned on the visual feature

Aeryn had been having a hard time adjusting to hew new life in Taxon. Despite the fact that it was completely unlike anything she had ever experienced before, she felt even more alone knowing that all of the others besides her and Chiana were still back on Moya someplace in the Uncharted Territories. Since when had irony deemed the Uncharted Territories more safe than having her feet planted on solid ground? She didn't wait to contemplate it
( ... )
Sheppard was used to getting questions like that. Ronon and Teyla, being from the Pegasus Galaxy, didn't know half the things he talked about. So he pulled his tablet back out to answer the question - and was greeted by a face that oddly looked like Vala's.
She obviously wasn't Vala, of course. Vala would be all up and going for a social gathering. Then there was that Magnus that looked like Carter - and Critchon looked like Mitchell. So, he was kind of used to that too.
"It's a bird from Earth." He responded friendly. "Tradition has it that on the holiday in question, you sit down with families and friends and eat the turkey. Of course it's cooked and everything."
Aeryn watched the small screen as a voice became a face. She didn't recognize either of them, though she hadn't really expected she would. The only person she even knew around here was Chiana, though she was secretly wishing that other familiar faces would turn up soon.
He smiled and Aeryn listened to his words. "Earth..." she repeated. Now that word meant something to her. "You actually involve your families on purpose?" she inquired curiously, wrinkling her nose in distaste. "That seems like it could get so... emotional." Emotional was one thing Aeryn would like to avoid at any cost, though she would have been lying to say that she wasn't curious to see what a 'turkey' was.
"Well, yeah." Sheppard was a bit surprised by her statement. "See, on Earth, November through December are what we refer to as 'The Holidays'. There are two big holidays that we spend with family. Thanksgiving, then Christmas. It's supposed to be emotional. Spend the time with people you care about."
"No." He grinned. "You hatch an uncooked turkey and then cook it with whatever you do for the rest of the meal. Or, maybe one of the stores around here has a turkey you can take. Not like we need money here anyways."
Nice set up. Rare to see a room that neat without it being from the army. "It's a sort of nickname for Thanksgiving. Since you eat a big ass turkey on it."
While Sheppard might not be able to tell it from the small tablet window, Doul carries himself like someone familiar with hand-to-hand combat.
"And Thanksgiving?" It's been years, but he's seen a woodcut of a turkey and remembers them as a large, spherical bird with a smaller bill than a dodo or barnaclegoose.

So, Kirk was alive. Alright that was a big more dramatic. More like he was being social again. Sheppard leaned back in his chair, propping his feet up on his desk. Just a better angle to give the young Captain a look.
"Yeah. I think we do." He grinned. "Part of making an established partnership between people is sharing traditions. No harm in bringing your crew together for one day and just acting like friends, or family, for that matter."

"Because you're not a kid anymore." Sheppard pointed out. "You're a Captain. That means doing things you didn't before. Branching out. And, well, you never make anyone be social on the Holidays. It's something they choose. But, you still need to make the offer open."
He shrugged. "Maybe you should try to celebrate the holidays she's used to. It probably will help more than you know. Teyla joins us for a lot of Earth holidays, and I in turn join her for Athosian holidays. It makes more of an impact than you'd think. You gain trust and respect. Two things you need."
And here most people Sheppard would never make it past Captain. Now he was giving the equivalent of a Navy Captain advice.
"A turkey doesn't sound nice." Echo was out about in Taxon again. Whilst she'd been enjoying the warm whether the cooler temperatures gave her other memories to reflect upon but regardless she'd rather be out: Topher had finished the chair and she was all but waiting for him to tell her it was time for a treatment. Whilst liking the carefree time she had here Echo didn't know how plausible it would be if she were to refuse, which was why she spent most of her days outside in the different areas.
