"I rather like chess," Luna remarked, tilting her head as she studied the new arrival with unblinking eyes. The young witch doesn't make a habit of speaking to new arrivals - she's usually far too busy exploring the city in search of nargles or a way back to Hogwarts - but occasionally she feels compelled to speak. In this case, it is the mention of games that has attracted her attention. "And gobstones."
"You're in a place called Taxon," she said in a vague voice, giving Sarah a slight smile. "I'm afraid you've been kidnapped. We all have. You won't be able to go home."
"Kidnapped," it was a word that sent up flags, her knife turned inside of her wrist. She didn't want to set the girl off, even over some sort of communication device with tech that was way past any she was used to. At least, not until she'd found out a bit more information. "I've never heard of Taxon."
Her steps were careful and measured, her eyes still scanning the area about them. "Do you like chess?" She kept her voice open as well, trying for somewhat cheerful and unwary. "Can you tell me about this place?"
Okay, so being a bit in a mood didn't mean she shouldn't be nice to the new arrivals, right?
"As impressive as your shiny knife is, I don't think it's really needed," Cordelia said, smiling - even if her smile was a bit forced at this point. "You're... pretty safe here."
It didn't reassure her, being told that, especially not by someone over the strange tablet she'd picked up just moments before. Sarah had spent her life being suspicious, and for good reason. "Where exactly is here?"
"Taxon, Alien-Land, Land of the Ever Rising Population of Kidnapped People." Well, those were just some of the names she came up with for the place. Cordelia hesitated about telling the newbie that they might not even be on Earth anymore, but decided that 'Alien-Land' probably covered that already.
"Some pretty smart names there," she quipped, belying none of her worry. Nothing she said sounded reassuring. It simply put Sarah more on her guard, slipping her knife back into the small of her back for moment. "Jenny," she said it reflexively, "Jenny Burton."
