Book Rec... its simply lurvely.

I'm reading this book (yes, I know, first time in a looong while I've had time to read for fun) called The Thirteenth Tale, and I have to say, it is absolutely magnificent. I'm only about a hundred pages in, but I'm hooked. If I could write half as well as this author, I would consider myself accomplished, sit back and reward myself with some fancy red wine, but the chances that I will ever be that good are saddeningly low. She just gets it... she gets people, she gets their reasons and their motivations and their confusions and their ridiculous loveability. The book is haunting and spooky and seems magical even though its not magical at all. Its so well written. So incredibly well written. The author knows exactly when to describe and when to dialogue, when to creep the reader out and when to relate to the reader. It's very gothic. Book-gothic, not paint your face white and wear all black gothic. I just can't say enough about how wonderful it is, really.

So pick it up. The Thirteenth Tale, by Diane Setterfield. She's British, ya'll. Reason enough to give it a shot.
