then vs. now

exactly four years ago i began working for a small (less than 100 employees) company that dished out the following perks:
weekly massages, company cruises in the summer, $10000 christmas parties, bonuses that were 50% of your yearly salary (yeah, you read that right - it was like winning the lottery a few times), a relaxation room, flexible holiday time, casual dresscode...

three promotions, four raises, and a little over three years later, i decided to say 'fuck you' too all of that and pursue a different career path and return to school at 25. i'm required to strain my brain with sciences and give up a good salary, which has placed me at the poverty level. i explained this story to someone i met on the weekend and all he could do is say 'WHY would you leave THAT?? WHY??'.

easy: the perks mean shit if the basics of your life aren't being fulfilled.
i'm not sure if this dude was being critical of my choice to get up and leave what he viewed as 'perfection'. nor do i care. at this moment i am a trillion times happier and more fulfilled than i was a year ago. my bank account has dwindled a little, yeah...but that void has been replaced with an amazing experience in my favourite city. one might assume my current position is shit, but believe me...my life is not lacking at all.
