After perusing various vintage hair websites for tips, I decided to do another rag set last night, when I was grumpy and bored. This time, I used a real setting lotion (the adorably retro Lottabody, purchased from Sally Beauty Supply.) I also tried wrapping the curls a little looser before tying them off, and using end papers to avoid the munched-up ends look I got before.
Well, the actual set looked just as goofy as it did the last time. Behold:
But it was easy to sleep in. I used exactly 21 rag strips to put my layered, mid-back length hair up, and it took much less time to put in the second time around --- 50 minutes as opposed to 90.
This morning after puttering around for a few hours, I unwrapped everything, then combed out the super-springy ringlets that remained. I think I'm much happier with the result:
It's still a little poofier than I'd like, but it's really bouncy and soft (unlike the last time.) Go Lottabody!
Anyway, please forgive the multiple hair posts in a row...I am just rather amazed to find that an old sheet and a $5 bottle of set lotion were all that was standing between me and hair that goes "boing".
