Rockledge cyclist crossing S.R. 5 hit, killed by vehicle

Brevard County -- A Rockledge man died Friday night when his bicycle
collided with a car on State Road 5 in Brevard County.

Abel Lopez, 40, was trying to cross the road, near Anson Road, on his
Huffy bike and got in the way of an oncoming Honda, the Florida Highway
Patrol said. When the two collided, the front wheel of Lopez's bike
came off and he was thrown over the car.

The Honda's driver, 20-year-old Tara L. Johnson of Satellite Beach, was
not injured.

Erin Ailworth, Martin E. Comas and Greg Miller of the Sentinel staff
contributed to this report. Information from The Associated Press also
was used.
