I failed to summon the ambition to go hunting fireworks, but when I wandered outside at the thumping of launchers, I discovered that the municipal San Jose display was right north from my place and only a few blocks away. Perfectly framed, even; I sat there on my front porch, put my feet up on the rail, and watched them burst above the house across the street. Some planes got an even better view, as it was directly in the flight path, and a couple appeared to be level with the top bursts. I'm sure it was pretty, but a bit distracting for the pilot.
