Ok so I'm in this history 600 class. It's sort of like a mini-thesis that I need to take to finish my history major. And the topic of the class is historical memory - or how the public as a whole remembers history, not necessarily how history actually occurs. We look a lot at how media and other popular forums for communication construct an image of history that sometimes alters or completely silences events and people. So anyway, I WAS going to write about how World War Two in Finland is portrayed in Finnish movies.. Which would have been pretty interesting and I started doing a bunch of research. And THEN I realized, why the hell should I not tie my two majors together? I'm always the one in class going "well, you guys can stop blaming the schools for not educating about such and such event, blah blah blah." SO now I've totally switched my topic to how the so called "discover of America" (I think I'll focus on the coming of Native Americans to the US, Leif Ericson, and Cristopher Columbus) is portrayed in children's literature. I'm really excited about it (because I'm such a freaking nerd) but now I'm like a MONTH behind in research! Ahhhhhhhhh stress!!!!!!!!!! But also, I'm really excited about it, so I have a bit more motivation to do it. I'm just annoyed I have to look at the actual history of those things too, and I can't just sit and read a bunch of children's books hehe

So anyway, nerdy rant of the day is over... I just want to nap because last night was crazy and awesome but nooo I've got to do a shit load of reading.
