I am baking bread from scratch. And it's not going very well.
Seriously, my mom gave me this Scandinavian baking cookbook that has all my favorite foods (read:cakes) in it, but everything is so complicated! And by complicated, I mean it's not my more common open-the-box-and-add-water-and-eggs kind of baking. I actually had to buy yeast. And then I ran out of flour, so I had to actually knock on a neighbor's door to get the last cup hahaha. And then it was so damned sticky, I figured it still wasn't right so I went to the store, bought more flour and the last egg I didn't have for the glaze, and now it FINALLY looks right, but since I kind of let it rise in between adding flour it'll probably taste weird. haha well, I've learned my lesson now I suppose? I just hope it turned out ok because I freaking love this bread (mmm pulla) because it's kind of sweet (like, meant for coffee-time, for you non-Norse who don't appreciate the wonders of pulla/hvettebrod).
I'm bringing it to class Monday (if it's not nasty), because hello, we get snack time and that's awesome!
Also, mom's taking me to the Swedish movie version of Girl With a Dragon Tattoo.
And I seriously look like one of those crazy bakers with flour on every inch of clothing and the entire kitchen table is white hahaha. How did I manage that?
pulla,
