Part of this post will make no sense if you know nothing about Hong Kong Kung Fu films

Who Mini-Review: 5/10 solely for the little references. Not happy with that particular death. Terrified of next week's episode. Amused by hand.

You know - sometimes I forget how accidentally hilarious old school Kung Fu films are. I watched The Young Master with Dad tonight and laughed at a lot of bits I wasn't meant to. This film also used Holst's Mars as the music for the end fight.

I was mostly there for Jackie Chan, of course, and him fighting Yuen Biao. Which is always a joy to behold. Boy they are quick.

Then we watched Wheels on Meals, one of the Three Dragons films, and I had a private giggle about the love triangle aspect of the film. Because, to be honest, it read more as 'A lovely gay couple decide to help out a street girl' than 'Two friends fancy a girl and try to help her'. Seriously. I'll have to 'cap it some day so y'all can see. Accidental, of course, but I think it just comes from Jackie and Biao being such good friends...

It is brilliant though. Slightly disappointed that Biao didn't get more to do in his last fight - though it was wonderful to see him leaping about. That man is scarily agile. And Sammo providing his usual comedy and surprising agility despite his weight was also entertaining.

Jackie was, well, Jackie. That man is entertaining to the last.

I think, now, that I'll start in on Yuen Biao's back catalogue of films. He seems to have a lot of good ones, though more low key than Jackie and Sammo. And he's cute when he's young. (Not that Jackie isn't, of course, but Jackie does have hi-larious hair in his early films)
