So, Many of you know that I am taking microbiology this quarter.
One of the things that has been reaffirmed to me is how much I rely on my sense of smell. Mainly because bacteria are stinky, and their stink reminds me of the smells of certain diseases/illnesses.
For example E.coli smells a lot like diarrhea, P. aerogenes smells like a festering wound, Staphlycoccus aureus smells like bad breath. Well, it turns out that these are the bacteria that frequently cause these diseases. Moreover, evolutionarily speaking, there is a really good reason why the chemoreceptors in our noses would be hard wired to pick up these smells. Since the presence of these bacteria could be deadly.
Well, need to get back to the studying, I've wasted enough time.
